The first chapter and I'm already loving it. I love his daughter and how he just seems to miss the days where we didn't feel like he was always doing something wrong. He just wants to help her and feel needed by his little girl. This book is funny so far. I knew he was going to mess up the whole getting her pads thing but seriously??? Diapers!!!! I could not. I guess we would get tampons or something but not diapers!! Also when they mentioned showing her a period party I actually thought they were gonna do it for a second. Geez, swear I've never felt so stressed for a teenage girl in a book. I was just thinking of what her reaction would be. I am so glad Charlie snowed some sense into them because honestly if my dad would have know when I got my first period and shown me a party with all my close friends I would also recommend for him to sleep with one eye open or to not sleep at all. I seriously love his daughter right now. Also, I just love how concerned he is for her and protective. I was internally swooning when he does it's so adorable. I'm such a sucker for father-daughter relationships. Give me that and I'm done for just gone. When he told her she should go home and rest because she's on her period and she refused I swear I was like what?? Girl if my dad would have told me something like that when I was her age I would have immediately agreed and walked out. No one likes dealing with cramps, just no I'm good. Okay, I'll continue tomorrow because I'm exhausted.
The next day......Dang, I love Charlie so far she's bold!! Sydney is literally everything I love this father-daughter relationship even if it's going through a few bumps in the road.
Later...I swear he just wants Sydney to stay with his little girl. It makes me swoon and want to cry all at the same time!!! I'm about halfway through the book and it's been good so far. I think I love Sydney more and more through this book. The fact that she worries about her dad not moving on and finding someone is just everything. She just doesn't want him to be alone forever. I love her!!
Even later.......Swear to god if I don't get a father-daughter heart-to-heart talk by the end of the book I'm going to rate it one whole star less than I was going to I need that it!!!
Um, let me just say whenever things are going great and they are together and happy I know I just have to wait for the other shoe to drop because something ALWAYS happens but somehow this is not what I expected. I won't say what it is but I did worry for a split second that this would happen but I quickly ignored it. Guess I shouldn't have.
I'm done!!! And I got it my father-daughter heart-to-heart talk I got it yay!!! This was a good book and I love the heroine. I love that the hero is such a great dad. Charlie is so sweet to Sydney and I love it. Garrett is a good dad and honestly, I love how much he cares about his daughter. If you couldn't tell I used to be a daddy's girl and now miss it because I wish I had that type of relationship again. but this is real life and my dad and I aren't like that anymore is that's probably why I'm so obsessed with that in books. Give me an amazing father-daughter relationship in a book and I'll fall in love with it immediately!!

Let us start with the positives. This book wasn't a bad book. Most of the issues I had with it are more of a personal like/dislike variety. These authors always produce well-written books. The pace was good, and I never felt the need to skim. They always have great secondary characters. There was no OW/OM drama. There wasn't much angst. Some hot sex scenes. Both main characters were fairly likable. For me, it took Garrett WAY too long to get his head out of his ass but once he did I liked him. Charlie, I enjoyed overall, but honestly, she came across a bit pathetic at times lusting and running after Garrett. On the positive side it was my understanding that she had slept with OM while lusting after Garrett, so at least she wasn't sitting around pining like a virgin. Lastly, it was all wrapped up in a sweet epilogue.

There were a few things that made this one lose some stars though. One, After reading book one and two "I" was left with the impression that Garrett hadn't slept with anyone since his wife died. Alas, that apparently was NOT the case as we hear about how he had sex with OW outside of the town. To say I was bummed about that is an understatement. I was looking forward to reading about a hero that prioritized raising his daughter over random hookups. Now to be fair it didn't sound like he was a manwhore, but he lost some luster for me. Two, I thought the big drama was pretty predictable. I knew what was coming from the minute they had a certain conversation early on in the book. Lastly, the dead wife was too much in this one. Let me start by saying that I usually am not bothered by dead exes/wives/husbands etc. and I knew going in that he had a dead wife he was pining over for twelve years. But Melissa was brought up way too much in this one for my tastes. We even get pages devoted to her death after giving birth. I didn't need to be beaten over the head with how much he loved Melissa. How she was his first love. His first everything. It took away from the present day romance IMO.
So long story short. It was enjoyable but not as enjoyable as I was hoping it to be. That said I am still onboard for the next series starring Vance (Charlie's brother).

Let me first say that I've really enjoyed this series from the start but Garrett's story is by far my favorite! The cover is AWESOME and the model stuck in my head as I was reading...he absolutely fit Garrett's character in my mind. I loved Charlie and Garrett! They fit perfectly together...Charlie was the light to Garrett's dark and their saucy banter and hot chemistry kept the book from feeling too dark or broody. It seemed like Charlie was always chasing Garrett but rather than feeling that she was weak and inadequate, I felt like she was secure in herself and brave to keep pursuing the love of her life. She never gave up on Garrett and that took a lot of strength. Garrett was lonely and melancholy but I could also tell how much he yearned for Charlie and the happiness she brought him. It was interesting watching the push and pull between them. There's not really a whole lot of drama or angst in this story but the witty writing, the fast pace, the wonderfully charming characters and the glimpses into the lives of the secondary characters put this one on my faves list! Told from dual POVs with a happy ending. I received, read and voluntarily reviewed an ARC of this book.
It's one of those "Woman constantly forgives man his jerkhole ways because he has MANPAIN and she LURVES him, until he finally goes peak jerkhole. When she (at last) dumps his ass, he goes all-in on the grand gesture to win her back and is magically reformed and free of MANPAIN thereafter." If that's your bag, it's a well executed example, but it doesn't really work for me.
4.5 "Take a freaking look at that cover" stars!!
Best book I've read from this duo yet!! This story was amusing, believable, charming and romantic. Shoot, it was too easy to imagine the cover model as Garrett.

Charlie: beautiful, kind, generous, sympathetic, patient, persistent, just plain awesome
Garrett: handsome, brooding, hurting, strangely charismatic, open and honest
I loved how smoothly the story and its dialogue flowed. The love between these characters gelled beautifully and I think the pacing added to this story's authenticity. Garrett's fears seemed realistic and flooded me with compassion and it was easy to understand Charlie's perspective and put myself in her shoes. Honestly, there's almost no one sexier than a single father, especially a hot one doing an amazing job.

If you're a fan of fun and steamy best-friend's-little-sister romance, then I recommend adding SEXY BEAST to your to-read list.

Really enjoyed Garrett's story
I really enjoyed Garrett's story. I've been wanting to know more about him and this book answered all those questions.
Charlie has always liked Garrett. Since she was little, he has always caught her eye. Now she's grown and she is determined to show him that she is not just his best friends little sister anymore, that's she's a woman.
Garrett is a closed book. His wife died 12 years ago and he was left to raise his daughter on his own. Now, he's going through life alone. He says she doesn't want a relationship. He can't handle losing someone again.
Charlie pushes all of Garrett's buttons.
Garrett starts to let his guard down.
What happened when Garrett thinks Charlie has betrayed him?
Will he lose her forever when he finds out the truth?
I really liked Garrett and Charlie's story. I think Charlie was perfect for Garrett because he needed someone to push him out of this comfort zone.
I can't wait for Vance's story.

Honestly, I'd been waiting since book 1 to read this one! But I still loved book 1 the most, so 4.5 Stars!
