I’m really enjoying learning the secrets of this ragtag group of people who make up this series. This time around, we learn a lot about Raze and get to know newcomer Vivienne aka Vinnie, who was joined the group at the end of the last book. (Look, I’m just going to put this out there…while I won’t put spoilers for this book in this review, there may be spoilers for the first two stories. This is absolutely a series you have to read in order to know what the heck is going on, so do not start here if you haven’t read book one yet.) We also get some new faces and all new secrets and connections.

The author knew what she was doing when putting Vinnie and Raze together. They are opposites in the best way, in a way that is complimentary. Yet they are also so in sync in other areas. There’s no judgement even when judgement may be warranted. They understand one another on a gut level they cannot explain, even to themselves.

There is some crazy shiznit going on in this story. Not only do the group at Vanguard have to deal with the world falling apart with a deadly virus running rampant and often turning those it doesn’t kill into crazed murderers, there’s some infighting happening on their homefront. A wacko cult leader type guy, confused citizens who are just scared and not sure where to turn, and the actual President of the United States still out to kidnap those he wants and kill the rest of them. It’s intense, people.

As much as I enjoyed the ride, there are some little timeline blips that stuck in my craw. You know how I am about that stuff! While it took me a bit out of the story, overall this was a great read.
