Heartbreaking, the death of innocence and the desperation to escape from the life no one deserves. This book will haunt me forever.

I liked it a lot, but didn't quite love it. I think the ending fell somewhat flat for me. Definitely a heavy read, though short.

This is the first of 10 "classics" I'd like to read this year, and while I'm really glad I've read it, Toni Morrison's writing style is so different and stylistic that it was difficult to entirely wrap my head around.

This is my first time reading a Toni Morrison novel. The way she writes made it unavoidable to feel connected to the perspectives of each character. Morrison gives space to each actor’s distinct view on varying experiences, opening the reader’s mind to more than what feels instinctual. A heartbreakingly beautiful read.

A very poignant commentary on generational trauma/abuse and institutionalized racism. Good but challenging read.
