toni morrison has such a way with words. it was beautiful, poetic, hard hitting and heartbreaking story. i just wanted to hug pecola. toni morrison has instantly become one of my favourite authors.

my dumb brain had to re read sentences a couple of times because i couldn’t comprehend or depict what she was trying to say but once i got it i loved it. stunning.

Beautiful writing, but not an enjoyable read. Very dark, absolutely hopeless and therefore was hard to read for me.

toni morrison has such a way with words. her prose really is like music. but please mind the content warnings at the end of this review; she does not shy away from detail. i listed as many as i could remember. a truly disturbing and haunting narrative. the foreword is a must-read to get a look into morrison's ideas for the book, and the closing is one of the hardest-hitting ones i've read.

This was heavy. Heavier than I was prepared for. But Morrison's writing style did not disappoint.

This is a story about racism and poverty and "pretty privilege" and feminism and all kinds of other very prevalent issues, as seen by little girls. Seeing the world through a little girl's eyes simultaneously introduces so much wonder and so much despair to the world in this book.

This Goodreads reviewer highlights so many quotes from the book that also resonated with me, so I recommend checking that out: https://www.goodreads.com/review/show/1700151827
