This book is gorgeous and heartbreaking. Morrison's prose is very lyrical, almost poetic. She's a great narrator too.

Truly shocking that this is Morrison’s novel debut. An incredible work with prose that is unmatched in deliciousness, evocativeness, and incisiveness.

A devastating, reflective story. Love Toni Morrison’s style of writing, just wasn’t a big fan of the story’s structure

Toni Morrison’s writing style is stunning — poetic and raw in the best way. But some parts were really tough to read, not because of the writing, but because they hit hard emotionally. That’s the point of this book though: it’s meant to challenge and confront you with the ugliness of external-turned-internal racism, classism and how societal standards influence self-worth.

This story will stick with me for a long time, as it forces the reader to reflect themselves in many ways. I had to reread the prologue (and the added note from Alice Hasters in the german edition) multiple times to really let the importance and significance of the book sink in.
If you’re planning to read this book, PLEASE make sure you READ THE TRIGGER WARNINGS before reading!!!
