I had to read this for English class, and as anyone who has had to read a book for school knows, it kind of wrecks the book, no matter how good it may be. It’s just really hard to enjoy a book and get emotionally invested in it when it is accompanied by a countless number of boring papers.
That being said, this book was a lot better than I thought it would be. It addressed issues in a thought-provoking way, tough life lessons, and had a lot of great quotes. However, a lot of the chapters did not contribute to the overall plot, or were just kind of boring. The way the plot flowed was also slightly underwhelming and just odd. Nothing happened for a while, and then a lot, and then nothing, and then a lot, and then it was over. I was not a fan of that.
Also, for some reason I kept picturing Jem as Georgie Cooper from Young Sheldon??? Someone please tell me I’m not the only one who’s thought this.

I read this book in my freshman year class of high school and at first, I was not too fond of it cause I thought we were going to read a book about how to kill a mockingbird or at least something to do with mockingbirds. But this book goes more profound than what a mockingbird is. I believe the book had something to do with the girl's dad having to represent an African American who killed someone but I think he was framed. But my favorite part of the book was learning about their neighbor who was also African American who they "mocked" because of how he looked? or what they thought of him. It dwells deeper into his character and I believe he turns out not to be a "bad" guy.
