A unique insight into the mind of Cobain throughout his weird collection and his writings.

I don't really think it will come as a surprise to anyone reading this review that this book is really meant for people who are either serious Nirvana fans, or people who used to be, and wanted to read this for nostalgia's sake. I fall into the latter category, and actually probably would not even have bothered reading this at all if someone hadn't picked it up for me.
That said, I did enjoy it a lot. It showed a very human side of Kurt Cobain, and I learned a few things that I either didn't know, or had forgotten about.
Those that called this a "grunge pop-up book" are pretty much on the money. Definitely not for everyone, but the people who this is for will probably enjoy it.

This was an extremely interesting read that included a glimpse into the "unseen" backstage life of Kurt Cobain. I recommend it to any Nirvana fan because it definitely provides a new view of his personal life that is not usually covered. That being said, the author is terribly biased and portrays Kurt as a complete suicidal psycho albeit a genius one that paints pictures using his own poop, obsessively collectes strange antiques, enjoys drawing aliens and making collages of vaginas. To me, the author paints Kurt as almost inhuman, emphasizing that he did not have normal emotions. I don't know, I'm not a Cobain expert, but I just didn't like the obvious bias that he killed himself, for there are many others who argue otherwise.
Overall, I really liked this book, especially the collectibles that come along with it.

I did not like the text of this book. I felt that the author took too many liberties with his story telling. Although there are a lot of great pictures and pull outs that I really enjoyed.

Though slightly blunt and not for a young reader, Cobain Unseen is a great way to see into the thoughts of the late, great, Kurt Cobain.

i would have LOVED this book when i was 13. unfortunately, i read it when i was 28, and i saw less of the cute genius and more of the deadbeat who's sitting around making music while various girlfriends pay the bills...ugh. but this book is fun, it's nice to be able to reach into an envelope and pull out a reproduction of the page with the original "smells like teen spirit" lyrics. i like looking at the little ephemera that makes up someone's life, and so that part was fun too.
