AHHHHHHHHHHH. That book was amazing. That SERIES was amazing. Ugh, truly such a unique, complex, and entertaining series. I can’t get enough of how much this book and series surprised me, defying expectations and feeling utterly new and unique while still making sense and being realistic. I think this series was better than the original trilogy, but it’s hard to say because using the original trilogy in this series’ lore formed such an amazing foundation for it. This series took that concept and evolved it every time it was starting to get even remotely stale and even unnecessarily just because, while still remaining true to canon and being realistic. I really think this series is a masterpiece and truly so unique. It was also super funny and entertaining, with lots of action. I think Wayne could be one of my favorite characters of all time. This ending also comes close to the ending of the Hero of Ages — not quite there, since most of it did rely on action and I think the epilogues were a bit too dragged out (though interesting and sentimental), but amazing nonetheless. Overall, a million starred series, Brandon Sanderson is an absolute god, I cannot wait to read what comes next. Here’s some thoughts I had while reading:

  • Kicking off the story with Wayne lore??? That explains his quirks even more?? Let’s fucking go
  • I’m not currently seeing the vision/characterization consistency of Wayne being a constable and Wax retiring but I’m willing to hear him out — okay maybe I can see it a bit for Wax, but not Wayne yet — Edit: yeah I gotta know to trust BrandoSando, I see his vision now
  • Okay I did not see Wax and Steris having kids, this time jump is throwing me for a loop
  • Once again he uses evolutions of the magic system to make action scenes more interesting, this is great
  • Okay I kinda fuck with family man Wax — and Uncle Wayne ofc
  • Okay I’m once again confused my Marasi’s arc… like the end of the last book had her accepting that she didn’t want to be like Wax and she could be less, but not she’s achieved everything she said she wanted and she thinks “is this all?”. I just don’t get how this all agrees
  • BrandoSando canonically making it clear that Wayne knows how to fuck is so funny
  • Why is it kick Wayne while he’s down time? Why is Wayne even down at all???
  • It’s nice how they’re all nice and accepting of Steris and her crazy
  • Wax is FIFTY now? That’s crazy…like I get that heroes are usually too young, but anything above like 35 is kinda unrealistic to me, like they gotta be in bed by 8 bro
  • I wish the relationship between the sisters was developed a lot more, it seems like everyone in the main group has developed relationships but them still
  • I wonder why he chose Wax to be a descendant of Breeze specifically
  • I really like the amount of detail put into little things to develop the world and entertain people, like adding little Jak snippets in for shits and gigs
  • The female version of Wayne existing is funny but I don’t like the undermining of his uniqueness…okay it’s kinda cool how the Set made someone specifically to combat him tho
  • This book is actually so funny sometimes, hella witty too
  • The character development of Telsin is decent, but I wish we had more flashbacks to show it rather than him basically just telling us
  • Taunting us with a Kelsier cameo is EVIL — okay we got a little one, that was fine
  • There’s a little too many weird off-world things being introduced now, I’m super confused — I’m sure they’ll show up in other series and they’re probably being dropped to keep people interested but there’s enough to worry about with the plot stop confusing me!!
  • I’m not sure how I feel about the next series being about the Ghostbloods — like they’re an interesting organization but if there’s too much Kelsier I feel like it would be too fan-servicing for me…to be fair tho I just really want the cyberpunk era sooner
  • I love crazy-eyed Wayne
  • Okay TwinSoul, pop off
  • Okay I think I understand Marasi’s arc now — she didn’t want to be like Wax, but she wants to make bigger change, and the Ghostbloods satisfy both those things — it makes sense, but I feel like her arc was overly-specific for that exact outcome
  • I kinda like how the main group split up and can’t communicate, it’s realistic and really builds the action and makes it clear how each character/pair can stand on their own abilities
  • It’s so funny how all the books in this series take place within like 2 days each, it totally doesn’t feel that way (but also it’s not unrealistic — I’d get super tired tho with all they’re doing)
  • Ooooooo we’re doing a full-circle thing with the main conflict from the first book
  • I love how one of the key solves to the main conflict could happen because a wife packed well for her husband lmao
  • Ahhhhh that little moment of peace between Wax and Wayne before the final battle built everything up so much and made me feel stuff and now I’m scared of what’s gonna happen
  • Let’s go, adding in some emotional conflict to the main climax, that’s a good change for BrandoSando
  • I love how the leader actually leads his people and considers their needs — romantasy MMCs who would destroy the world for their woman take note
  • Wax and Wayne having to fight basically clones of each other is such a cool plot device
  • Wax and Wayne giving themselves Hemalurgic spikes??? Insane
  • AHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH
  • Okay, from spoilers I knew Wayne was gonna die, but dude made it so bittersweet I can’t even really be mad about it
  • SUCH a good ending, I love how Wayne saved the day in the end
  • I kinda fuck with where Marasi ended up
  • Epilogues were a tad too long for me, but I’m definitely interested in the rest of the Cosmere now (when I’m brave enough to start Stormlight)
