"i don't care much about most people, but i can't stop paying attention to you."

[b:Love, Theoretically|61326735|Love, Theoretically|Ali Hazelwood|https://i.gr-assets.com/images/S/compressed.photo.goodreads.com/books/1681476644l/61326735._SY75_.jpg|96703712] by [a:Ali Hazelwood|21098177|Ali Hazelwood|https://images.gr-assets.com/authors/1611084228p2/21098177.jpg] is about a woman in STEM named elsie hannaway who lives in a dirty apartment complex with her best friend, and struggles with the fact that she has no money, three-too many jobs, and is, of course, a WOMAN IN STEM. she constantly gets looked over because they think she isn't worth the time, but elsie is one of the smartest theroists there is. the only problem? she has a secret, and it could ruin everything for her. she changes her personality to suit others. she runs a fake-dating profile. she lies to her family about whats going on. and inside, she's imploding.

one of her fake-boyfriends ends up really working for her. she likes him as a friend, and he likes her well enough. so she sticks it out with him, just for a few dates around family so they'll stop bugging him. that's how elsie meets jack smith. the hot older brother of her fake-boyfriend. but even if he is hot, it doesn't matter. because he's had it out for elsie since they met. and that's just fine; she wants nothing to do with jack anyway.

except for the fact that she KEEPS running into him. literally.

when elsie gets an interview to work at MIT, she is beyond excited. she'll finally get the money and recognition she deserves, right?! ...no. wrong. because she has to compete against another possible candidate, george. but it's okay, because elsie's got this in the bag. until she meets the head of the physics institute. which is, obviously, none other than jack smith himself! elsie is freaking out because OF COURSE he won't let her have the job! he hates her!

but then... they talk. and bicker. and bicker and bicker and bicker. but elsie feels herself falling for him, and that's dangerous territory. that's her enemy, she can't start having feelings for him! and she gets it under control; until she doesn't.

"you could be my entire world," he whsipers in my ear before moving down to my collarbone. "if you let me.""

this book was so beautifully written and i immediately fell in love with elsie and jack. (and jack. jack! jack... jack!!!!!!) the characters have such a cute but mature relationship together and i loved every minute of them together. the banter was so good too, i was giggling and screaming and whatnot.. ali hazelwood has such a way with words. i loved the incorporated STEM parts here!! they were more prevalent in this book than her other two, [b:The Love Hypothesis|56732449|The Love Hypothesis|Ali Hazelwood|https://i.gr-assets.com/images/S/compressed.photo.goodreads.com/books/1611937942l/56732449._SX50_.jpg|88674377] and [b:Love on the Brain|59571699|Love on the Brain|Ali Hazelwood|https://i.gr-assets.com/images/S/compressed.photo.goodreads.com/books/1657897729l/59571699._SY75_.jpg|93021199], which were so amazing btw!!! go read them rn!!! elsie was just such a strong female main character.

ali hazelwood will forever be one of my favorite romance writers.

i’ve been in search for something fun, easy, fast pace, familiar etc., so as someone who accidentally read 5 books by Ali Hazelwood this year i would say that “Love, theoretically” is a nice story and i liked it the most.

the very few cons i’d dare to mention (you don’t have to expect a lot from tiktok romcoms) are the need of last conflict, and why, from all nationalities, Ali decided to add a kind russian man Sasha in 2023?

2/5/24 - Another 5 star upon re-read. Tropey and magical.

Never thought I’d see the day when I gave a Ms Hazlewood original a five star review but ,,,,, 😀 What can I say, I’m a woman with simple interests and I love me a good fanfictiony trope from time to time. Especially when it’s done well and this one is a great example of why these tropes CAN and do fill a void in publishing. Ali’s best work and I love her for it.

And most of all I love tall guys with big brains ‼️

but I love an anxious, scattered, accomplished, and successful female main character more 🥹

Adam and Olive and the two from that other book can all move over 🤧 because Elsie and Jack are here to stay on top fr 🫶🏻
