Carley Fortune

I knew, going into this, that this was pretty much a copy/paste of Move and other words which I just read, and I can confirm it. Not complaining, that's exactly what I wanted to read, and I loved it.

I struggled through the book, got to a point where I though this isn’t bad then the twist came and my only thought became what the f— is this? Seriously?

I really enjoyed this book. It brought me back to all the emotions of young love. While it is very similar to Love & Other Words, I think I actually liked this one better. A great summer read that will definitely make you feel something.

Can you go back home and make up for the mistakes you made? Can you get everything you ever wanted if you just ask for it? After making a mistake and ruining your chance with the love of your life it’s hard, but so worth it in the end.

Really loved it but I don’t understand how
Percy can cry over Sam and love him so much and then just sleeps with Charlie
. It doesn’t make any sense to me but maybe that is the point and to
show that it really was a mistake with no feelings attached, so they even have a chance to move on
. Also the ending wasn’t for me

My first Carley Fortune and I REALLY enjoyed this! The way she described the lake was so descriptive. It felt like I was there with them. I’m a sucker for a book set in a lake/beach town and this fit the bill perfectly.

Percy & Sam were think epitome of what I think a childhood friends to lovers should be. The awkward interactions to the first crushes, & kisses, the jealousy of knowing you like your friend but you can’t tell them but also no-one else should like them because YOU liked them first.  The possessiveness of those kinds of relationships was displayed perfectly.

I enjoyed seeing Sam and Percy together throughout their lives and reading their chemistry on page was believable to me. There were some steamyyy moments but it wasn’t too wild. The only thing I wished we got were a couple more “present” timeline conversations to further push why these two are destined for each other. Also the brother DRAMA was fun and it felt like real sibling energy.

& this would’ve been a 5-star read for me but I had to knock a full one off for the last line in the epilogue….bc girl….please stand up 😂 I DO understand WHY but … nah. I still liked it!

4.5

I flew through this and loved every second. Books with two timelines just always work so well for me and this was no exception. I do wish there were more chapters in the present day though. The summery lakeside setting was perfect and added to the romantic atmosphere of the story.

Persephone (Percy) and Sam complement each other so well and I really enjoyed seeing their friendship develop over the years and slowly become something more. I thought that the struggles Percy and Sam went through as they got older were really realistic and depicted in a really honest way. I just loved them together.

The big reveal the book was building up to, the reason Percy and Sam haven't spoken in 12 years, was what I expected but I didn't dislike it. I did think that it was glossed over very quickly in the present day timeline though.
