I don’t think I fully understood the book but there were some beautiful passages and I’m glad I read it. Might reread it sometime in the future.

This is probably a book that is somewhat “lost in translation” for me. The chapters go between Anna & Laura, mother & daughter who lose each other when Anna makes up a new word while reading a poem that cracks the world & splits her & her daughter into parallel universes. An interesting concept, but after that, I struggled through the mundane lives of each woman hoping for some deeper reason to care about them. I could see the edges of lifelong grief, but it flirted through the story rather than drawing me in.
