This book is enjoyable (albeit maybe a bit repetitive), and the characters are definitely likable. Unfortunately, the whole thing remains rather surface-level.

Jeremy and Darren are cute together and have a whole lot of good-humoured banter between the two of them. However, their relationship sometimes felt like it didn't have enough depth.
When they were still only friends, we at least got to see them talk about real life stuff that was bothering them, and we got to just basically see them being there for each other quite a bunch. Eventually, when they become involved, that kind of just stops and all their interactions become only sexual (which it mostly already was before, but at first it was all humorously and teasingly done) or them professing their love for each other. It basically became a whole lot of telling instead of showing, which didn't really captivate me.

The whole athlete coming out storyline wasn't anything new: it followed the same plot in that regard as the first book had, and also as most other MM sports romances do.

The side characters weren't really that great in my opinion; none of them were fleshed out and they didn't feel like they had any real heart behind them. They felt like props. Even West and Anson didn't really shine whenever they were in any scenes.

There isn't ever any conflict and even when there was some drama on Darren and Jeremy's path, it got resolved in no more than two sentences. I like a bit more conflict than that (grovelling, for example, is just awesome) so that was definitely missing for me.

It wasn't that I disliked this book, not at all. I had a good time reading it; it just didn't sweep me off of my feet or make my heart flutter. My interest nor heart was really in it, but I did generally enjoy it.

Book 2 of this series follows Jeremy & and Darren, who were both side characters from book 1. Jeremy is recently divorced and Darren has always believed himself to be straight, that is until he forms a friendship with Jeremy and they both form an unexpected but not unwelcome connection that develops into more as time goes on.

I enjoyed this story. It didn't quite match my experience of book 1 of this series, but it was a fun, low-ish angst filled story with good humour, spice, and a Bisexual & Demiromantic awakening I like that Riley doesn't gloss over those topics either as we see Darren's inner confusion over his change in sexuality and his hesitancy in exploring it initially and how he slowly overcomes that. I didn't feel the romantic connection between the MCs as much as i did with book ones' characters, but it was still there, and the spice was good. The narration was great. Iggy Toma was as always fantastic, and this book introduced me to a new narrator with Benjamin Charles, and I will definitely be looking up more of his work. 🌶🌶

If you were to look up the definition of the word "twaddle ", this book would be the very first result. I just couldn't anymore.

I have to say, there is nothing in the book that you would not like. This is one of the best reads I've had in a while. I love how the author took us through a friendship that grew into the love of these men. I don't know what to say other than you have GOT to read this!
