dark sad
Introducing Hans Christian Anderson, the sad sadist.

I've known for a long time what happens in the original The Little Mermaid - the pain, the sadness, the tragedy -, but does it still hurt to read! And I have. Finally!

What nobody ever mentioned that I found interesting was the bit about the sea witch, and not the fact she isn't the villain, but where she lives and how she does her creepy sorcery. I mean, really, it feels quite dark.

I also never knew about a grandmother, or how much of an ass the prince kind of is. He basically treats Little like a pet, a pretty child to keep around. And the casual mention of slaves they have for entertainment purposes uuugh

There's a big religious message fed down our throats and a message to be good kids at the end for Little's sake. But really, if you're a jerk, are you not gonna be even more of a jerk if you know you can prolong someone's misery?? I'm sorry, Mr Andersen but you've misfired.

The other messages are kind of... Sexist, and actually if something is going to be painful for the rest of your, you don't need to keep doing it! Because I sure wouldn't like to feel knives and needles whenever I took a single step until I died.
