i thought this was gonna be a little more profound
2.5 - I'm still trying to figure out how this book is enemies-to-lovers (as stated in the summary) when they were never even enemies... maybe they mildly disliked each other for 3 pages? I feel cheated lol. The story started off strong but kind of went downhill in my opinion. There's barely any drama to keep things interesting and the main characters didn't feel fleshed out well enough to make me care about their relationship which is pretty important when literally nothing else happens in the book. I did like the authors writing style at certain points especially with Reese's internal monologue.

Eating hummus with cookies is absolutely vile, horrifying and unforgivable but they did mention Taylor so that redeemed them only the tiniest tiniest bit

Very cute set up with an introverted audiobook narrator and an uptight controlling author. It's a pretty fast burn with almost instant attraction and reciprocation. It's great to finally find steamy f/f so I'm not complaining about that exactly, but I felt like the characterisation was shaky. Arden was 'icy' for maybe one chapter before she unbent and got real friendly. Reese's grumpiness was more consistent but she still went from never leaving her apartment to hanging out with a strange client way too quickly for me. I did like that she was still shown needing down time to recharge, and being uncomfortable and withdrawing when pushed. Arden's recovery and journey with sobriety was interesting and well written. I like the care given to that story arc. Reese being supportive and non-judgemental of Lo and Arden was really nice, I like that shit.
This could have used another round of edits - there were a lot of continuity errors almost?one minute they're outside, next line they're inside the sound booth recording. She has nothing to wear but a borrowed hoodie, next line she's taken the hoodie off...and is naked? and a few typos and weird phrases and repetitions that were very distracting. There was some rather self conscious writing that plainly told me what the writer was going for instead of showing me - "Their forced proximity was charged." "Teasing was one of her love languages" (repeated verbatim twice). If it has to be stated like that, it's not coming through in the writing. Some of the minor plot points went nowhere and were anticlimactic how did Lo leave rehab early?? Why would Arden's agent Sophia put so much effort into rescuing her from alcholism only to later not care about her sobriety? That makes no sense at all. Arden changing her lunch order for some mysterious Reason that was never revealed. The Judge Judes stuff didn't seem to really serve any purpose.
It's still a cute enough read that I plan to read more from Lucy Bexley!

I picked this book at random from this audiobook app I've got, mainly because I wanted to listen/read more wlw books. The most popular LGBTQ+ books are always mlm ughh. Anyway, I jumped right in with no expectations but I actually liked it and the narrator was so good!
It's about an audiobook narrator who falls in love with the author of the book she's currently narrating :) I connected a bit with the main character who prefers to listen to white noise rather than your everyday sounds aand she hates people / crowds, but she likes Arden ahhh.. It was so cozy, sweet and far more humorous than I expected.
