This is the start of a trilogy, one that I have yet to finish. The first book, however, gets a thumbs up from me! The premise is interesting, and as someone who's read a ton of dystopian YA fiction, it felt new and fresh. Faith as a character is relatable, and there's the whole "dark, mysterious" love interest thing going on. I fully expected to find that the State was the enemy, and maybe they will be in the end, but I thought that premise that the State was good and the people opposing the State were bad turned that old "Hunger Games" style trope on its head.
As far as deep, meaningful discussion opportunities go, it's not exactly chock full of them, at least not this first book in the trilogy, but it is action-packed, and has enough intrigue to keep a person interested. I'd say the trilogy is a solid addition to any well-stocked classroom library, though I reserve the right to change my mind if the rest of the books in the series suck.

i was 200 pages into the book before it even started to get to the plot. really not a fan.
I have mixed feelings about this book. It was OK. I'd give it 1 1/2 stars. I thought it was sort of a bad copy of Michael Vey and Hunger Games. There were some things in the book that were somewhat disturbing such as "drug use" and a hint of sexual issues and violence. I wouldn't have my 12 year old read it. Michael Vey and Hunger Games are much better books and have a much better story.
There are also A LOT of plot holes in this that drove me nuts. In one chapter, one of the characters we'll call him A makes a disturbing discovery about another character B. In this situation, B threatens to kill A. In the next scene, the characters interact as though nothing happened. There are numerous scenes like this where the characters don't react in a way that would make sense or is explainable. The author also leaves out key information which only confuses the reader and truly made me not want to invest my time in this book.
There will be an inevitable sequel, but I don’t think I’ll be reading it. All in all it was OK, but it seemed like the author was trying too hard to make a more gritty version of Michael Vey and it didn’t work for me.

Univers un peu bancal, 2,5/5. Dommage je m'attachais beaucoup à Hawk et à Dylan
I don't know why this book has low star rating. I found this book so much fun to read. Faith wasn't what I expected and the end result of the book I wasn't expecting. Can't wait to read the next book! But I read this book without knowing what it was about of read any of the reviews. So if you have high expectations for this book you will be greatly disappointed.
This book came to me at the right time.
"Pulse" is an amazing read that has great characters and an even more amazing plot to create this fascinating world in which there is a twist in every turn.
I will definitely be finishing this series.

This book was pretty much exactly how I expected it to be. It was interesting, kept me guessing, and kept me reading. The only thing I didn't like, wasn't as much a thing as a person. I hate Wade Quinn. I liked him in the beginning and then he got weird, plus, didn't he like Faith? Then in the end he tries to kill her? I'm just a little confused.
So overall, I thought the book was okay. I felt like the author didn't develop the characters well. The friendship between Liz and Faith was almost nonexistent. Then Liz leaves for the state, gets killed by an unhinged teenager with jealously issues that wants revenge on Faith for existing. Faith of course was angry and said she missed her best friend, but to be honest, there wasn't a lot of proof that she really cared about her in the book. In the text, Liz was referred to as annoying and clingy. And Liz's hand holding thing? Kind of irrelevant to the story. Also I felt like the author should have focused more on Faith's backstory. I still don't know what Drifters are. Maybe because I got bored and started skimming chapters of the book, but there was no direct definition for them. And the love triangle which didn't even last that long was terrible. I also tried very hard to decipher the motives behind Wade and Cara's actions, but to no avail.
sorry, just didn't like it. The writing style was choppy and confusing.
