How can a book about body snatchers (with romance!) be SO BORING? Nice idea, horrible execution.
I actually quite liked this one. The world was so unique and the world building was so strings I've read so many books about alien invasions but until now I've never seen one where the aliens were portrayed as kind and well intending at the same time as the humans were portrayed as the good guys. It was kind of refreshing and I found myself liking both Wanda and Mel. I even liked both guys. I had a soft spot for the seeker too.
Also liked how there was this love square but it didn't harm or take away from the plot. It wasn't overwhelming and aggravating to read.
Basically I have no idea why this book wasn't as popular as Twilight. It's a much stronger work and shows what Meyer can actually do!

I enjoyed this book. At times it could be a bit tedious. But I really liked the story.
I was given this book to read by a friend of mine, who said to just give it a chance. If you've heard of the [b:Twilight|41865|Twilight (Twilight, #1)|Stephenie Meyer|https://d.gr-assets.com/books/1361039443s/41865.jpg|3212258] books, chances are you're heard of The Host.
If you started your [a:Stephenie Meyer|941441|Stephenie Meyer|https://d.gr-assets.com/authors/1395583393p2/941441.jpg] experience by reading Twilight and couldn't stand it, chances are you're like me and have avoided this book like the plague (or like a town full of Spirits).
Though I read all the Twilight books, I couldn't stand them. So I decided that Stephenie Meyer wasn't for me, and have avoided this book.
Until my friend gave me her copy and told me to read it. And I promised to.
I think she's still surprised that I did.
It's a quick read, easily digested in a day (depending on your allotted time of reading). The writing is simple and quick, much like her previous books, though it is a tad bit better.
The idea of this colony of spirits coming to infest humans because we are an evil hateful species taking advantage of our beautiful world is a good concept. And no sparkly vampires!!
Some things bothered me though. The characters are all older, yet still talk/act/think like teenagers. Jared is 27 and yet the way he acts I could not relate to, which you would think I should. Jamie acts much younger then his age as well- I mean, given the whole 'last of the humans/fight for our lives' thing going on, you would think maturity would increase, not decrease.
And then my biggest issue with Meyer: why do we constantly have to have some stupid love triangle thing going on?? Mel loves Jared. Wanderer takes over Mel. Wanderer/Mel loves Jared. Wanda now loves Ian and Jared. Ian and Jared both love Wanda (yet Jared still loves Mel). Cue reader vomiting. I don't know if she thinks that every reader wants two guys fawning over them, but it's really not as peaches and cream like what is laid out in this book. This triangle doesn't make for a more compelling read. More like I want to have a spirit invade my body so that I don't have to remember this for awhile.
As for the ending, can someone explain to her that not everything has to be sunshine and fairy farts? We can have some unraveling, some broken hearts and tears. Whoever sent her the memo that readers must have everyone smiling, all things put right, happy happy joy joy- whoever let her know that that's a necessity, please go find another job.
I give this book 3 stars though, because I expected most of my complaints. Given her writing style, I assumed that this would happen. If it hadn't of, I would have been giving her more stars. The writing style seems to have evolved a bit better from her previous novels, which also helps.
What also deterred from a higher rating is right at the end. It seems to have been left for a sequel. I hope not. I think it would ruin this book greatly. But the almighty dollar will probably win.

Mel comes back and is happily ever after with Jared. Wanda has a new body and is happily ever after with Ian. Sharon goes back to Doc. Hell, even Kyle kinda-sorta gets Jodi back through Sunny. Everybody smile now!! Everything is right and everyone is happy.I give this book 3 stars though, because I expected most of my complaints. Given her writing style, I assumed that this would happen. Though I liked that they found another resistance cell, and they found the spirit Burns, showing that there were more out there like Wanda and Sunny

Y'all are nip-nap-paddy-wack-NAPPING on this story. So freaking interesting of a story. I really hope she continues the story because it just has so much potential.
It took about a hundred pages to get into this book, but I enjoyed it. Though the story line is different, the tortured love theme from Twilight is still here. My sis and I went to a book signing for this book--that was some craziness!
I really disliked this book the first time I read it. I gave it another shot and started to get into it. I enjoyed the idea and I really enjoyed the ending.
