Love this book. Always have always will! This might be my fourth "re-read." Every time I dive back into this world I never want to leave. Even though I know the world has come crashing down around human civilization I just love the Wanderer's soul so much! I love how much Melanie fights for her family, I just wish the age between them was better. Never thought about it when I was reading this as a 20 year old but now was a 34 year old it is a little strange.

This is definitely in my top 10 favorite books. I love the world, character development & the way Stephanie writes the relationships in this book. I love how she shows the necessity of the law of opposition & the beauty of earth experiences that we can take for granted.

Amazing, that's my one word to sum up the book.
I was pleasantly surprised by the way the book was written and of the story line of the book.

The first time I heard about "The Host" was from a friend a couple of years ago. She said that she didn't like it and that it was a confusing read and that she didn't like how it was about 'aliens'. But a couple of years later, being stubborn, as I usually am, I decided to read it anyways. It was a great choice that I made.

I really enjoy Stephenie Meyer's writing and her ability to make me fall in love with the characters in her stories.

Although I rated this book 5 stars, I will admit I was kind of disappointed. This is because IT ENDED!!!!

Well, I liked it.

I generally listen to, rather than read, a book. I try and do this on long road trips -- but this particular book I just caught pieces of as I was able. So at first, it seemed to go slowly. I wondered if I really cared about the story. But once I got a good long stretch of it, I was really interested.

I haven't read Twilight, and won't. I am not at all interested in vampires. That said, I don't know anything about Stephanie Meyer's writing style other than this book. I thought the story here was excellent, although it seemed a revamping of "Invasion of the Body Snatchers," but much, much better. I didn't find it predictable, and I didn't find Wanderer a "Mary Jane" type of character. I loved the way Wanderer came to know being human.

The story did lag in spots. I don't think that was my constant stopping and starting of the book, but rather just a tedium of detail. Just about the time I was ready to give up on the story, though, it got interesting again. She does tend to draw things out for the emotional pull of it, doesn't she? The whole business about saying goodbye was rather overdone. I also thought the epilogue was unnecessary and rather a bit drawn out. Even so, it did tie things up nicely.

I'm not as excited about this book as I have been others. But it's still a good read. It will not waste your time, and you'll be both entertained and touched.

I really loved it when I was in high school but...until now, I decided to reread this book. This is not best book than I thought.

But serious.....it has cliffhanger in end of book and STEPHENIE MEYER HAVEN'T START WITH SECOND BOOK!! Ugh...

Seriously, Stephenie Meyer!

This book was so terrible that I stopped reading it several chapters in. I couldn't finish it because there are actual good books to read.

The Host by Stephenie Meyer is an intriguing science fiction novel that blends romance and dystopian themes. The story follows Melanie, a human whose body is taken over by an alien soul named Wanda. The dynamic between the two, struggling for control of Melanie’s body, is fascinating and explores deep questions about identity and humanity.

The romance is slow-burn and emotional, with a love triangle that feels less intense than in Twilight but still engaging. The world-building is solid, and the concept of alien souls inhabiting human bodies is thought-provoking. However, the pacing can feel slow at times, especially with repetitive internal dialogues between Melanie and Wanda.

Overall, The Host is an interesting, character-driven read with a unique premise, but it could have benefited from a tighter plot.
