We’re all very acquainted with the phrase ‘never judge a book by its cover’ but I think that we should add something to that: never judge a book by its summary (or at least not entirely). The one reason I refused to read this book years ago is because of what that summary told me. I thought it was about aliens – the kind that we all picture in our heads when we hear the word ‘alien’ – and about a lot of fighting, loneliness, misery, and so on and so forth. It’s only when I saw the movie trailer that something inside me told me that maybe this wasn’t what I thought it was. I saw the movie then and was so impressed and overwhelmed with emotions that I wanted to read the book right away.
I think is a very unique story that many authors will be inspired by (What’s Left of Me by Kat Zhang is one example I can give) and many readers will fall in love with. I sure did. It was sometimes hard to understand certain actions by certain characters but when you think about it and put yourself in their position I think you would react the same way. Just imagine a friend of yours that has two souls inside one body. Do you trust that person? And if so, which of the two souls do you trust the most? I would be hella confused all the time.
Some passages were a bit cheesy, especially the ones between Wanda and Ian in my opinion. I don’t know, for some reason I didn’t like Ian as much as I did when I saw the movie. I think my view on him is a little distorted because I saw the movie first. However I do love Wanda much more after reading
the book because I understand her better now. I loved how she and Melanie became friends even though Wanda is still the ‘intruder’.
The Host was originally a stand-alone book if I’m not mistaken but since the movie of The Host came out, there are two other books planned in this… world. I mean yes, the ending of The Host hinted on a sequel but why wait so long? I’d almost think Stephenie Meyer is milking the cash cow. I. DON’T. KNOW. I’ll read it.

It better than Twilight...but still...not great.
emotional
slow-paced
-This book was everything to me in high school, besides Twilight.
-Truly what got me into romantasy.
-Despite it being years since I last read it, I recall almost everything. That's how much it stuck with me.
-Made me cry a couple times, especially in the end.
-I'm not too keen on her body's barely legal age and why it was so emphasized. Yes, it's post apocalyptic and age doesn't matter, blah blah. But why did it even needed to be mentioned then? Perhaps to relate to the targeted audience estimated ages? I assume this because reading this in high school ( age 16), I yearned to be Wanderer and find an Ian that truly loved me for me despite physical appearance. Either way, it made me a little uneasy reading it now (age 32).
-Overall, the book holds a special place in my heart. One of the first books I read before the movie adaptation was released. Truly one of the first standalone series that got me into reading.

I first started this book after I'd finished the the Twilight Saga. After getting 30 odd pages in and finding there were no sparkling vampire romances, I quickly got bored.
So after 6 months or so I've picked it back up to have a second bash and finally finished it.
The book was an easy read, not much thought required so if you're looking for an easy beach read then look no further.
Again Meyer has written another love story here, just when you were thinking she'd changed her style in creeps the romance.
*****POSSIBLE SPOILER COMING UP********
If I had to describe this book in a few words, I might call liken it to the terminator movies but for girls.

I almost want to say it was amazing. I do love it & I'm sorry I finished it so quickly. It's straight up sci-fi but with a lot of love thrown in. Definitely a quick read- a great escape but still made me stop and think.

My husband convinced me to read this, I've never read anything else Stephanie Meyer. The overall story was really engaging and had me on the edge of my seat several times. However, some of the chapters and visual descriptions were really boring imo
