ON HER MAJESTY'S SECRET SERVICE is an anomaly for the film franchise, as it's one of the best movies despite having the worst Bond. But as a book it's another pleasant surprise from Fleming. Thoughtful, emotional, tense, introspective. I'm even inclined to believe that Fleming deliberately made Bond a misogynist not because Fleming himself was misogynistic, but because he wanted to craft Bond as a broken man (this admittedly doesn't come out as well in the movies). Even more surprisingly, ten books later this still addressed the lingering grief from the first book.

This is the second of the so called Blofeld Trilogy and finds Bond on the trail of the elusive Blofeld where he meets a mysterious woman who immediately grabs his attention with a spot of inspired street racing. This book is more character driven than the previous Bond novel I've read and finds Bond showing his more emotional side while still maintaining his spy persona. Another good addition to the Bond series that adds a greater sense of mystery than one expects. Looking forward to continuing with the series.

James Bond #11

This is not my favorite. Fleming continues to humanize Bond, this time he actually gets married. It has been interesting seeing Fleming's writing progress and him try new styles but he takes a step back in this story.

I enjoy these stories for what they are. Short, mindless, and fanciful.
