This… this was very hard to read. Multigenerational story about Palestinian struggle. Really enjoyed how each character shared their own subjective viewpoint of oppression - coping comes in different ways after all !!Given life changes I couldn’t pore over the story as much as i wanted to, but beautifully and tragically written nonetheless.

Absolutely breathtaking. Heartbreaking and devastating. Cried buckets. A beautiful tale of Palestinian diaspora.

This type of generational spanning novel has been done many different ways and this one was just a big less “wow”-ing in the writing and the connection to the characters. I appreciated this view from a “privileged” perspective of people from Palestine of people being forcibly removed and horrifically traumatized by Isrehell colonizers. Unfortunately all the generations who were more Westernized just annoyed me so honestly characterizations more so dropped this down from a 4 for me and the family reveal was not as poignant as I would have liked (but still sweet and wonderful). Free Palestine- Right to Return for all of lineages forcibly removed from the Middle East. ISREHELL SHOULD NOT EXIST

I really liked how this book jumped forward 5 years each chapter and was told from a different perspective. It moved through time quickly. While only 300 pages, it was not a fast read. How do I not know more about this conflict?

Absolutely breathtaking. I don’t have many words to describe the book as I’m still processing it. I just know it’s heartwrenching, yet beautiful. We followed 3-4 generations of a family and all they carry. Would highly recommend

This felt a bit like a collection of short stories. Each chapter is from the perspective of a different family member and it moves through time from the sixties through the 2000s, all with the background of significant political events in the Palestinian/Middle East/Arab/Muslim spheres. It was interesting to see the changes in mindset and connection across generations but also the patterns that emerge and the way that all the characters maintain connection throughout the years.

Really lovely writing, important history, and an interesting way to tell a multigenerational story. But given the jumping I sometimes found myself wanting more information on other characters and I also didn’t like that Alia never found out about the letters to Mustafa.
