A sweet bedtime story for the littlest ones.

A rosy-cheeked baby is being put to bed not by their parents, but by a menagerie of toy animals: a sock monkey, a teddy bear, an elephant, a pair of birds, and a mouse. They all work together gently and quietly to read baby a bedtime story; and feed and bathe and tuck baby in. My favorite part is that after saying good night and leaving the room, they reassuringly come back in to check on baby (who is of course by now standing up in the crib!) and sing a sweet lullaby... and finally, snuggle in together for the night.

Everything about this book is quiet and soothing. The story is told in recipe form, with cute instructions like (for the bath):
Add to water (not too hot).
Stir a little. Then a lot.
The illustrations are warm and cozy. The baby looks a little more boy than girl to me, but the book was explicitly written to be for "girls or boys."
