3 1/2 rounded down for being slow to start. Was not hooked on this story until 3/4th of the way in. Worth a re-read now that I’ve finished it. I feel like I may have missed quite a bit of Lex’s story since the timeline moves all over the place.

Not worth the hype! This premise has so much potential but it’s just... dull. It’s overall confusing and dare I say boring?

Boring, dull

Once the mystery of Alexandra’s past is revealed within the first 20 or so pages, the book becomes a whole lot less of a suspenseful thriller and more of a family issues mixed with the horrors of Girl A’s childhood.

In all seriousness, some aspects of this story(eerily mirroring the Turpine house of horrors in America) were genuinely terrifying to read-the author builds a chilling and nauseating picture of the abuse that all of the siblings suffered, and how it has effected them in their adult lives.

Sadly I felt less engaged with the story between the constant flashbacks and fowards, unnecessary perspective changes and blend of side characters was what let the story down for me.

I was kinda disappointed because I thought it’d be a thriller of some sort but it’s not. The first part had me hooked because it had that true crime vibe to it which I liked but the further I read, the more I realized that it’s far from thrilling. It’s more about how people cope with abuse differently.

Not gonna lie, I thought about putting this book down halfway but decided to give it a chance and I did. There’s that little twist at the end that I didn’t saw coming but besides that, nothing very mind-blowing and interesting.
