Girl A is beautifully written, and at times tragic. It starts a little slow but once you get into what's going on, it gets really good. Abigail Dean has a way of expressing tragedy in a way that really draws you in to the characters. Looking forward to reading her other books.

I believe this is similar to the case of the Turpin family’s real life ‘House of Horrors’ in which case, I also believe the author profited off of them pretty good…

This is less of a psychological thriller; more of a psychological memoir. It was interesting nonetheless and would be good for true crime fans.

We go from past to present in almost every paragraph, and the constant switch became tiring pretty quickly. I am a fan of multi-timeline storytelling, just not in every paragraph.

There was no ease of transition - characters would be dropped in with no introduction, leaving me wondering if I had missed something. Interesting story, however it was also flat and confusing.

Oh dear, I so wanted to love this book! I really enjoyed the sample chapters and was so excited but it kind of fell flat. Don't get me wrong, it is pretty good! It just didn't live up to the hype or my expectations. I felt like it tried to cram too much in and would have been better focussing on one or two elements in detail. The areas it covered that I wanted expanded were the details of how the abuse began and what happened, what happened immediately after their escape and how they coped, the siblings relationships with each other, the familys (and particularly the father and mother) religious beliefs. These were all covered but I felt it merely skimmed the surface.

I have only read the sampler, but so far, so good! I have been desperate to get my hands on this book as the initial premise really intrigued me. Children escaping their parents house of horrors and how they each go on to shape their lives and handle the trauma in their own way. The narrative tells the story of before and immediately after the escape, and when the children are adults, once their mother has died in prison, leaving them the house where the abuse happened.
The plot is really intriguing as it has several similarities to real life cases. I can't wait to read the full book!

DNF about 50% of the way through. I really wanted to love this book, I LOVE the topic of the book but lets be honest here, the chapters are way too long, there is zero explaining going on here, there is a huge amount of jumping around in the time line and while not a fault of the book, being an American, I don't know the geography of England so telling me you traveled from city A to city B to city C, idk if thats 10 minutes or 10 hours. I dont know if you went from the beach to the mountains or around the corner.

The book HAD great potential but quickly fizzled out. I cant imagine anyone w/o a legal or mental health background making it through this book.

I liked it overall but it did lose me at times -
Perhaps not quite worth the hype for me personally….
