So good, I thought it was a real account.
This was such a good story, well written, well paced, compelling and sad.
I loved the narrator, she provided an extra dimension to the story.

Definite child abuse trigger warnings. Was billed as a read alike to Room and it was similar but the writing was nowhere near it.
Mielenkiintoinen alkuasetelma ja tositapahtumiin löyhästi perustuminen sai kiinnostumaan tästä alunperin, mutta jostain syystä lukeminen aina kuitenkin jäi.
Tosi hienosti ja taitavasti on rakennettu kirjan tapahtumien kulku menneessä ja nykyisyydessä. Lisäksi hahmojen käyttäytyminen ja selviytyminen on kuvattu (ainakin näin maallikon silmin) uskottavasti, sen verran kuin saamme siitä tietää. Päähenkilö on samaistuttava ja hänen puolellaan on kirjan alusta loppuun.
Sanoisin, että tähän kirjaan uskaltaa tarttua, vaikka kuvaus vaikuttaisi hurjalta. Tietenkin ehdottomasti omat rajat huomioiden (!sisältövaroitus mm.), mutta mielestäni menneisyyden tapahtumia on kuvattu pääosin maltillisesti, vaikka ei toki kevyttä lukemista ole silti.

I really truly wanted to love this book. It sounded so good and the preface is right up my alley, but it just felt kinda meh. It fell flat and it didn’t “excite” me like I felt it might. I was also think the title “Girl A” is only slightly misleading because we peek into the lives of all of the children who were traumatized but I guess because we saw it from “Girl A’s” perspective that that’s the title? I enjoyed understanding the story, but details were missing that I felt would have helped the story. I will say it’s very intense, there’s child abuse, neglect and it’s extremely horrendous. Sadly, it’s realistic and there are some heartbreaking moments throughout the book. The end was

Auch wenn ich die Geschichte etwas anders erwartet hätte, hat sie mir gut gefallen.
Es geht weniger Richtung Thriller, wie man vielleicht erwartet, sondern eher Richtung psychological fiction und die Traumabewältigung der Charaktere.
Die Geschichte ist wirklich erschreckend und herzzerreißend. Die Motive der Charaktere werden gut rübergebracht und auch wie unterschiedlich die Geschwister sind.
Ich fand es auch wirklich interessant und erschreckend zugleich, wie unterschiedlich sie sich in ihrem späteren Leben entwickelt haben.
Den Aufbau des Buches fand ich sehr spannend und gut gestaltet, mit der Aufteilung in die verschiedenen Geschwister. Allerdings bevorzuge ich persönlich kürzere Kapitel, was es für mich manchmal doch sehr anstrengend gemacht hat.
Der Schreibstil war ziemlich distanziert und kühl, was es am Anfang etwas schwer gemacht hat, aber irgendwie hat es ich einfach extrem gut zur Protagonistin und der Story gepasst.
Ein Kritikpunkt ist, dass es sehr viel Input, aber kaum Erklärung gibt. Es werden sehr viele verschiedene Charaktere und Handlungsstränge einfach in die Geschichte geworfen ohne weitere Erklärung, sodass man sich vieles zusammen puzzeln muss und manchmal verwirrt ist

Very engaging, but ultimately disappointing. The first 2/3 of the book felt as though it was building to something, or some big reveal, but ended up not having a pay off. There was, technically, a reveal but I had predicted it as being extremely obvious on about page 3 so it fell flat.
I could not finish this book. It was so slow. I struggled getting into it and was forcing myself to ‘just read 10 more pages’ to try to get interested. The idea is intriguing but the writing fell short.
Lex grew up in the House of Horrors in Hollowfield, where she was bound and chained and basically starved. When he mother dies in prison, she and her siblings must decide what to do with the house, and Lex has to face some of the dark history she’s hidden away for years.
