Liked it & learned a lot about the Cuban revolution and also the early newspaper industry. Overall enjoyable, but probably would not reread or necessarily recommend over other books, unless that’s a period of history you specifically want to read about?
It felt like that specific subgenre of book club read that is great for what it is, but in the space between beach read & contemporary lit that’s a bit too “literature lite” for me personally. Felt like reading something like The Paris Wife or The Nightingale, etc—good and extremely popular books that just don’t quite do it for me. But if you love books like that, I’d bet you love this too!

One of the most phenomenal stories I’ve read in a while! The book Chronicles three women and their varying roles throughout Cuban revolution- and ultimately how all of their stories are woven together. Incredible page-turner, highlighting fierce femme warriors.

Interesting time during Cuban War of Independence from Spain and the Spanish-American War. It took longer than I like to connect some dots.
*Audiobook* As the history nerd I can’t help but be, I do love this series that Cleeton has chosen. And I learn so much about Cuba, which has a fascinating history. I liked 2 of the 3 main characters, but I can’t quite put my finger on why I didn’t like her. I should have liked her, perhaps it was just the reader that I was listening to but I found her mildly annoying. Ah, well it wasn’t 5 but 4 is a good compliment. Not really any kind of major twists, so don’t expect those going into it. Of course, I’ll have to read the next one.

Good read. It’s just a slow start but it’s always interesting how she intersects the characters.
3.5 stars. Not my favorite of all her Perez women stories, but still a good read.
