I've read 3 of Chanel Cleeton's other books in the Perez Family saga and absolutely loved them, but this one left me wanting more. I generally love her ability to write historical fiction so seamlessly, which stayed true here, but the story itself felt too long and too repetitive. The three points of view she switched between were a reach until the very end of the book. Enjoyed it, but was hoping for more!

Ok Beach read. Clipped sentences, and inauthentic expressions used in dialogue such as, "Go for it," and "trying to figure out what my future might look like." Judging by the things I have read originally published in the late 1800s, that's just not how people spoke. But it did have me fact checking and learning some things about Cuba, The Spanish American War, Hearst and Pulitzer.
I am a big fan of Cleeton’s historical fiction novels but this one just wasn’t close to the caliber of some of her others for me.
I thought this book dragged a lot. This was not nearly as good as her other books.
Another fantastic novel by Chanel Cleeton - our three heroines are easy to root for. Their adventures, intertwined with history, make for a perfect read.
Interesting history of a little known period, especially the rivalry between Hearst and Pulitzer as exemplified by Grace, society deb turned reporter. The Cuban characters didn't affect me at all. So a little disappointed as loved her previos books.
