"I know you don't understand what I'm saying to you, Jamie, but I've need to tell you in my own language. I love you, lass, with all my being."
Be still my fucking heart! This was so good! Alec is up there with Mr. Craven but not quite. It took me a minute to warm up to this emotionally constipated Alphahole. Jamie however was a gem. There however were some kind of unfulfilled plot holes.
Trigger Warnings: death, death of parent mentioned, dubious consent, graphic injury, blood, medical content, child abuse mentioned, and physical assault

There's a certain ✨charm✨ about this book that I have yet to find in other HR romances. I went into this book blind and had no idea it was going to be this FUNNY!! It's been a while since I've laughed the whole way through a book and I can definitely see why it's such a popular favorite! Jaimie's quirkiness and Alec's gruffness created such a passionate and fun romance. I liked the way they tried to navigate their marriage even though they kept stepping on each other's toes! Jaimie and Alec did not fail to amuse me at every turn. The Bride is definitely a must-read for HR fans.

Reading this book made me feel so happy, I was smiling from start to finish and it is definitely being added to my favourites list. Perfect in every way and was a revolutionary piece of literature for its time.

It was a quick and easy read. Not sure of the historical accuracy though. Alpha male, feisty female with admirable skills type of story.

Oh goodness, I don’t even know where to begin… The Bride was definitely a fun, entertaining read and I thoroughly enjoyed reading it (would have finished it in one sitting too if I hadn’t reached the middle well past the middle of the night lol).
As expected of Julie Garwood, The Bride was an engaging read with fantastically written characters and captivating plot. I continuously found myself absorbed by the bumpy-though-hilarious ups and downs of Jamie and Alec’s relationship that when focus was drawn back to the suspense aspect of the novel I had almost forgot it was even supposed to be there!
There were moments I wanted to wring Alec’s neck and knock some sense into that arrogant man’s head, but there were also moments when I was left wondering, “is it really possible for Jamie to be so unaware of the consequences her actions would have on Alec?” But I suppose therein lays the beauty of Ms. Garwood’s writing—her characters are well-rounded and realistically written. They can be arrogant, pigheaded, stubborn, rude, and a million other things that make them interesting people rather than boring Mary Sues.
This is definitely a feel good novel I would keep on my bookshelf.

I really liked it. Again, 'The Bride' was basically my attempt at satiating my shameless Highland obsession and it did a fairly decent job.
At first I was a tad worried because I thought that Alec might be a bit too misogynistic for my liking. Now, that's not to say I don't appreciate some degree of demanding possessiveness in my romance novel men - it wouldn't really be a romance novel if there wasn't - but sometimes I feel like maybe the author takes it too far. So, when Alec started spouting things about Jamie being his 'chattel' and the like I got concerned. But then, as the story goes on, you find out that really Alec's inner dialogue is more a refelction of what he's trying to convince himself, rather than what he truly believes.
I liked Jamie, too, though her name kind of threw me for a loop as I'm more used to seeing that as a guy's name in Highland romances. She may actually act a bit out of her time, but whatever. It's fiction, right? A simpering protagonist would really just be boring, and while I do appreciate historical accuracy in books,it isn't always necessary for a good story.
Also, I really liked the fact that Jamie and Alec had personalities that clashed fairly significantly, but the author didn't pull a Sandy/Danny in 'Grease' and completely change her charcters so they could be together. They just sort of learned to adapt to one another, and that was something I felt was pretty realistic.
Overall, very enjoyable read.

Güzeldi ama açıkçası beklentilerimi karşılamadı. Çok güzel şeyler duygum ama o kadar da abartılacak bir kitap değildi. Ama tabi İskoçya da geçiyorsa bir kitap, okunmaya değerdir.

Given the year of publication, I'm honestly quite shocked by how well this one aged. Not to say it was perfect, definitely some scenes that I don't think would nor should be included in present day, but overall this is such a good read. It has such excellent humor, gorgeous romance, intriguing suspense, and lush setting to connect it all. Only mere quibbles to be had on my part, otherwise-- smooth sailing!

3.5 stars. This is the first historical romance I have read that is set in medieval times. It's a bit hard to get used to the setting ... much different than Victorian England. The roles of men and women are much more defined and separated in this era, especially in Scotland, where this story takes place. Sometimes I would have to pull myself out of the story to remind myself that Alec was not a boorish overbearing man as a character flaw ... it was just how the world was set up in his time. There are tons of people who adore this book, and I can see why. The interactions between Alec and Jamie are wonderful to read. My introduction to historical romance, however, came with more recent authors, and there is a bit of difference in style between those authors and those from 20-25 years ago. I find that I prefer the more modern style. Having said that, though, I still found much to love in this story where two people thrown together in marriage because of the dictates of their respective kings find a way to love each other. I loved seeing the way that Jamie found a way to adapt to the Scottish lifestyle, and I also loved seeing how the Scottish Kincaid clan found themselves falling in love with her despite their previous prejudices against the English. I was leaning toward giving this 3 stars, but I just adored the final scene of this book. It was magnificent! It made the whole story come together perfectly. It was beautiful. I wasn't sure if I would read any more Julie Garwood books, but she has a way of crafting memorable scenes that makes me want to check out some of her other popular novels. I did end up enjoying this one quite a bit.
