This books reminded me of Five Wounds with very real human characters who have the entire spectrum of human emotion and behaviors. It was painful, frustrating, and endearing. The audio performance was fantastic! All of the characters were dynamic and complex. The weaving of Hawaiian lore and culture was new for me and I learned a lot too.

Heavy, sad and magical. Beautiful writing. Read alongside the audio book, which had multiple POVs as well as narrators. (I always appreciate this). I'll say the book left me feeling very sad but that's the real life part, life can be sad. Grief, financial struggles, finding yourself. It was alot, but of course I loved it.

wow wow wow. truly a beautiful book. loved how the mystical aspects were rooted in the reality of the Flores family and their community. cannot wait for this author to write more books

The book is beautifully written but I just find it sad and hard to read how the characters treat and feel about each other
This book immediately got me interested, however I just felt like I was waiting for more. Great character development and a really interesting plot, I’m just not sure in execution it delivered.
