Sharks in the Time of Saviors hooked me from the start but then lost me towards the end. Excellent writing, wonderful characters, excellent narration. Why did it lose me then? I guessed I wanted full immersion and didn't feel it.

it took me a really long time to finish this book - the middle especially moved quite slowly - but once i picked it up again, i sped to the end. i was mostly captivated by washburn’s prose, which is fluid and emotional. i resonated deeply with the revelation of oneness with the land/living/gods and the sense of grief that seemed to blanket the whole book. also appreciated the very honest portrayal of a three child family 🥲

I liked this book and the writing was good. The buildup was fantastic, but I kept waiting for something else to happen. But when nothing else happened, it helped me appreciate that this book is about grief and how everyone is just trying their best to survive.

Ich bin mir nicht sicher, was ich von diesem Buch halten soll.
Der Schreibstil hat mir nicht besonders gefallen und an einigen Stellen (besonders gegen Ende) fand ich die Handlung sehr verwirrend.
Insgesamt fand ich es trotzdem interessant und unterhaltend, und es hat in mir ein Interesse für hawaiianische Mythologie geweckt.
