I finished this last night but I have been spending some time thinking about it and what I might say. Yet another Patrick Ness book that I really enjoyed. Yes, I know it is YA but there is still that bit part of me (and you, go on, admit it) that never grew up and likes the YA world. I could have said the safety of the YA world but there is nothing safe about this book. It's hard to say much without giving things away but Seth wakes up after an almost certainly fatal drowning incident to find he is back in his deserted childhood home on another continent. I would have preferred a more, um, certain conclusion but it worked well the way it was and I predict this is a book I will remember for many years to come.

I think this book was a little hard to get into, it took a while to introduce actual living characters over Seth's imagination with characters in his dreams. I did not see it coming that he was gay either. I think it added a nice modern touch to the book. Overall it was an interesting read and the ending leaves you hanging on for more information but I think it was a nice realisation of his life right at the end. Good read overall and nearing 4 stars more so than 3.

Patrick Ness has done it again! This book is like "A Monster Calls", it's hard to truly explain how you feel when you finish it. Anyone who reads this will get a different meaning or take something away from this.

For me, what I take away from this is that we as humans live such short lives and we should try to make the most of what we have now. There is always more out there and never feel like 'is this all my life is going to be?'. If your life isn't what you want it to be, then go out there and do what you want and make it how you want it to be.

Seth was a refreshing character, I didn't particuarly like or hate him, but I can understand him. He was realistic and I liked that. I really loved Tomasz, always saving the day and giving us some comic relief in a world where there's nothing much except confusion and fear.

As with Ness' other books that I've read, there are always so many questions needing to be answered and lots of twists along the way too. This book is no different. There was action, suspense and mystery. I want MORE Patrick Ness please!

The next part of my review is a bit of a spoiler so read at your risk if you haven't read the book.
SpoilerNess really made me think: How would I feel if all my life until now had ony been a sort of dream, not real and that I was living a life that meant nothing? If this isn't real then I would be happy with the descisions I've made. But, I don't think I'd like to live two different lives. I'm happy with the one I have now, I can see how for some people this would be a blessing to have a chance to live life a different way.

Cože? A tohle má být jako konec?
Miluju ten jeho styl psaní. Adam mě do sebe vtáhl trochu víc, ale i tak to byla pořádná jízda. A chci něco víc, do prčic!
