4.5 stars. I thought this was an excellent follow-up to the first book and I highly enjoyed it. I will say it’s a bit darker in themes than the first one, and I was a little disappointed that the characters in the first chapter didn’t really wrap up their story, but maybe that’ll be in the third book. Either way, I’m very happy I read this and I’m very much enjoying this series.

I find it amazing that the author is able to come up with new, unique and interesting stories every time. The books deal with emotional trauma and I feel we may be missing out on some of the importance and punch of the grief and bereavement in the books due to the translation. Other than that, there were some beautiful sentences in the book and I look forward to reading more stories from the time-traveling cafe.

If you liked the first book (which you should) you will like this one too. While I thought the first book was more about the value of connection even if we know that in the end it can be tragic, why would we want to go through time to talk to the people we can’t now even if we know events won’t change, this one seemed more about forgiveness and moving on.
I like the short emotional stories that always seem able to give a good gut punch.
