I enjoyed this story.

Content: some violence and macabre elements, passionate kissing, innuendo

Even though this is number 8 or something in the set, I was able to understand what was going on (of course I probably missed some politics brought in from earlier books) as I would a stand alone novel.
The ending left me happy as a hallmark movie. I thought the methods of solving problems was imaginative and I greatly enjoyed this book. Look forward to more from her!

This is more like 3.5 stars and I couldn’t decide which way to round it. The story is nice but it is not nearly as good as the other books in the series. Most of the time the narration and the way the characters speak feels very haughty, like fancy words are used for the sake of using them not because they are the best fit for the sentence. It’s alright other than that though.

Intriguing concepts, fascinating and unique take on seldom used tropes, but would have featured better as a fullsized novel instead of a novella. There's so much about world and characters only hinted at that it makes it difficult to truly root for the characters.

I wasn't ready for the depth and beauty of this novella.
I cried when he matured and grew wings, omg
Beautifully written, with very vivid descriptions, and very relatable characters.

Super cute, super fast. The mythos behind a seer kept in a cage was pretty interesting. It would be entertaining to see more in this world.

Just brilliant!  I've never read a book that made such good use of the characters' immortality to build the story.  I don't know how Wilson managed to create something so amazing in so few pages, I'm in love.

I will live with the wanting forever and be glad of it. I will eat my own heart and consume my last hopes and not waver.

This was my first Sarah K. L. Wilson book and my first of the Stolen Brides of the Fae series—a series I swear I see at least once a week on my very, very targeted Instagram feed—and it was totally unexpected. I have a feeling from reviews that this is the oddball of the bunch, and I think that’s why I liked it so much.

It’s less about adventures and flirting and the characters getting to know each other, and more about bargains, atmosphere, creepy shit, and the slowwww march of time for immortals. Almost everything is told in reflection rather than happening on the page. The style feels so suiting for what it’s about: a fae dragging his country through a war that’s eating up the world he knows (and that doesn’t seem to like him much), and a mortal girl who only lives one day a year—except for the futures she lives through other people when she tells their fortunes.

Also making her the Mayfly Seer? When every writer of fae (including myself) just can’t resist saying that mortals have “mayfly lives”? fabulous, i tell you.
