Very different than anything else I've read. So much of the book was its mood, and the feeling of time slipping past differently for the characters (fitting, since we humans are like mayflies) felt haunting. I had kind of looked forward to the hero rescuing the heroine and seeing them spend time together, so in that sense I was disappointed, but I liked the story I got, especially the clever ways Vidar escaped situations. The only thing I didn't like was the loose end of Precatore still being "at large" at the end.
Minor: Torture
