I went into this book very neutral, reading it only because so many internet theorists think you need to read it before the next ACOTAR book comes out… but I was pleasantly surprised. It reads like a romantic suspense book set in a fantasy setting. There was mystery and intrigue and the story moves along. My biggest complaint is that this isn’t a standalone novel. All of the plot lines resolve by the end of the story and there are no cliffhangers (there’s a surprise, knowing SJM!), so knowing there are two more books makes me… unenthusiastic about what’s next. It would have been perfect as a one-and-done.

Great world building. Compelling story. Interesting characters. I really enjoyed this book and am looking forward to the next book in the series.

I don’t vibe with many FMC and MMC but I absolutely loved Bryce and Hunt. Their banter is so witty and fun to read. Now for the plot… ⭐️10/10⭐️. The plot twist was unexpected in a classic SJM format. I was balling my eyes out from the FIRST BOOK of this series. It is rare for me to feel so much from the start of a series. These feelings showed me how well SJM built this world for the audience. So much so, that I got attached to or felt intense annoyance towards every character and to this world. I’m still riding on that high from that ending WOOOO what a rush!!!!
