this book is written like poetry. I had no expectations going in, and really enjoyed this.

I feel like my heart has been viscerally scooped out of my body and replaced except it wasn’t replaced correctly like there’s a deep ache there after reading this like it’s touched parts of grief I never expected would be touched by a book

Mi è sembrato uno di quei libri che se becchi nel momento sbagliato è solo insulso e noioso (per questo ci ho letto altri cinque o sei libri in mezzo). Però è anche una storia straziante, e ammiro la sua capacità di rielaborare i ricordi di una vita trovando la poesia nello squallore e nel degrado della periferia americana. Un reportage delicatissimo di dolore e di morte, è la storia di uno che ha avuto poco e perso tanto. Mi è piaciuta soprattutto la storia di Trevor e il fatto che, pur tanto poetico e sempre pacato, è riuscito anche a parlare in modo molto forte dell'epidemia di oppioidi e di mostrare come colpisce, in silenzio, chi sta ai margini.

The prose is so poetic, each line is so rich. Really enjoyed this and will be reading more of Ocean Vuong’s work!
