I was very glad Emma didn’t settle when Jesse returned. Just witnessing their interactions, they weren’t right for each other anymore. Emma changed while Jesse more or less stayed the same. Although it was hard to admit, it gave them both a chance to live better lives apart.
Sam was surprisingly strong through all of it. It was kind of him to give Emma the space she needed, although it killed him to do so. I was even more enamored when he showed up to fight for her.
In the end, I believe Emma ended up where she was supposed to be. It wasn’t only about who she loved but who she was at that point in her life. I’m glad she stays in touch with Jesse and they can both live their lives while remembering the past fondly.
Taylor Jenkins Reid is a phenomenal author and is basically an automatic buy for me at this point.
