It was difficult listening to the repeated self doubt and inner dialogue of a woman experiencing a terrifying event. It just got so repetitive that so had to skip over parts as I became bored.

I’ll start by saying that I do think this was well written, the opening scene had me interested from the first page and I could really feel the emotions of the characters throughout the story, the choice to have nameless characters was interesting to say the least and I did quite like that aspect of the novel.

However, there were lots of jumps back in time through this book. Each one seemed relevant to current events but I did sometimes find the writing a bit tricky to navigate because mid paragraph we’d flip back to a past conversation and there was a lot of internal monologue which became a little repetitive. The flashbacks also seemed to take away from the suspense of the novel. This was a shame because in the present day I was really on the edge of my seat, however because it was so frequent, it kind of took away from the terror of the situation.

As we approached the end I was visibly frustrated with the characters in the story because I KNEW the main character was correct and I really felt for her, I just needed a conclusion where she was validated and listened to.

I’m a bit disappointed that I didn’t enjoy this novel more, reading is definitely very personal so I’m not saying it isn’t worth a read because there were definitely some parts I really enjoyed and I was very intrigued to find out the conclusion of the story, but overall I don’t think this was for me.

This one was a rollercoaster. I thought the book was almost done and it was at 48%. 😅 The second half was a bit slow until the end but it didn't bother me.
