I listened to this as an audiobook--Hope Davis does a marvelous job reading it--and I completely lost myself in the story. The characters are so well developed--not always likable, yet still people I wanted to spend time with. The story meanders, but it never goes off track. Masterfully written.

Remembering who belonged to who was a challenge, but ultimately it was unimportant. Loved Albe and Leo and Franny and Fix.

Wow. This book had so many deep threads I'm not sure I'm done finding all the meaning but I still feel very satisfied.

So many characters and somewhat depressing bleak lives. So much damage done and a strange combination of events. I don't know what to make of this.
I just didn’t love this book. It’s very well constructed, but I didn’t feel very connected to any of the characters and the plot jumped around so much that sometimes it was confusing. I also had trouble keeping track of the characters and who they were related to, that’s probably partially my own fault because I’m reading several books at once. It just felt like it dragged and I wasn’t enjoying reading it.
I like family stories and this was a unique one. This is my first Ann Patchett book and I thought it was really well written.
