The sweet relaxing read I needed during a rough week (especially with all broody books on the rest of the docket!). It had me smiling at moments of quiet, indirect snarky hilarity and at heartfelt, touching interactions. It wrapped up neatly, though I wish we got to see more of the relationship resolution on page.
My favorite characters - charming Bomber, sweet Eunice, straightforward Sarah
Graphic: Dementia
Moderate: Terminal illness, Ableism, Death, Animal death, Suicide, Death of parent, and Fatphobia
Minor: Alcohol, Infertility, Miscarriage, Toxic relationship, and Infidelity
sherbetfrosting's review against another edition
In the pages I read there were more than one completely degrading and unnecessary descriptions of fat characters that put me on alert because the fat phobia knocked me right out of the story. Then on the last page I read the author resorts to flinging insults at people on benefits as though it's a moral failing. When I researched the author she mentions a career in local government but conveniently gives no more details, it would not surprise me to discover she is a tory and given the random insults that made me uncomfortable I will not be finishing this book.
Moderate: Fatphobia and Classism
