One of the greatest pieces of literary fiction I've ever read. Unsurprising that this created an entire subculture.

it’s a slow read but the last few chapters had me hanging on to every word. Richard is a very complex character as well as the others. You’d have to reflect on who you are and what you believe to truly appreciate this.

For a book whose length overwhelmed me at first (cannot remember the last time I read anything over 300 pages), I found this to be a really easy and enjoyable one to get through.

The books plot is actually very minimal, so it’s a wonder how it manages to span 600 odd pages. But I adore Donna Tartt’s prose, I think it’s gorgeous. Some of the most mundane and ordinary plot points are written so descriptively, it really helped carry me through the book without me wanting to put it down.

I think a lot of the references to the classics were lost on me, but I don’t think I missed out on anything by not knowing the references either.

A great piece of modern literature, that really gives off the dark academia vibes.

My flatmate and my best friend revealed one day that this was their favourite book. One of many spooky shared tastes, having not known one another at all before I introduced them. My flatmate lent me his copy and I devoured it in little over a day, awakening naturally at 3am, and reaching straight for it.
The writing is exquisite. The characters have depth and mystery. The plot unfolds deliciously from the very first line. I can't wait to read it again.

i was honestly just bored throughout this whole book.
didn’t like the audiobook narrating, i usually like when authors narrate their books but i couldn’t get into this one.
one or two interesting quotes but just meh overall and doesn’t feel worth the length
