Didn't like it as much as the second one, but for Pride and Prejudice readers, definitely a different point of view.

2014 UPDATE:
I recently re-read P&P, as well as [b:The Secret Diary of Lizzie Bennet|18775255|The Secret Diary of Lizzie Bennet|Kate Rorick|https://d.gr-assets.com/books/1394475850s/18775255.jpg|26680388], so I was in the mood to pick up this series and re-read it for a second time. It was a thoroughly enjoyable story to revisit, and I do think it is a very well-executed version of the P&P story from Darcy's perspective. There were two things that I noticed this time around that I thought were interesting choices (?) and feel a bit ambivalent about. The first is the version of Elizabeth we get in this story; she is not as spunky and fierce as in the original and that is interesting, at the least, or maybe bad. The second is the way faith and spirituality are portrayed in this series. These are basically non-issues for actual Jane Austen; being a clergyman seems to be a career choice with as much meaning as accountant in real Jane Austen novels. Making faith an important theme for Georgiana's story, and for Darcy's, is interesting, I think, although arguably not very faithful to the source material. Anyway, good fun. Maybe more like 3.5 stars.

ORIGINAL 2007 REVIEW:
Jane Austen fan-fic! What could be better? Especially when it's actually quite decent fan fic. These three books are the story of [b:Pride and Prejudice|1885|Pride and Prejudice|Jane Austen|https://d.gr-assets.com/books/1320399351s/1885.jpg|3060926] told from Mr. Darcy's perspective and are really fun. I'm not too much of a purist so I was able to enjoy these quite tremendously.

I have always wondered, "What was Mr. Darcy thinking?" In the original Pride and Prejudice Mr. Darcy is something of a Byronic Hero with a tortured soul that can only find solace in the angelic Miss Elizabeth. Deep down he is a man of integrity, and perhaps that is one of the reasons women pine after him, though I tend to think our fascination with his character is because he is tall, dark and handsome (and rich too). In Aidan's series Mr. Darcy is slightly transformed, and in ways becomes more real, as he reacts, over-reacts and eventually transforms himself. I liked the idea that Mr. Darcy saw himself crossing swords with Elizabeth in their social encounters which sharpened his interest.

I really enjoyed who Darcy was in this book. I liked seeing a sentimental side to him. (I'm speaking directly about Lizzie's bookmark) The scenes of interaction between Darcy and Georgiana were so well written. In Austen's Pride and Prejudice, you always understood that Darcy loved Georgiana and cared for her more than anything else in the world. I really enjoyed being able to experience more of their relationship. I'm looking forward to more of Darcy's experiences in the second book of the series!

It was nice to have somebody outline Darcy's opinion of things, but I feel like it didn't need to take up three books. There were too many unnecessary details about Darcy's life. I'm glad that I read it though. Will I read it again? It's debatable.

Mrs. A, you have done well. I am impressed with the impeccable alignment to Austen's story coming from Darcy's angle. Not a classic, to be sure, but excellently inspired fiction!

Long winded at times, but I am hoping book 2 and 3 will be worth my endurance. The payoff better be good or this whole journey would be but a tremendous waste of time and patience.

2.5 stars out of which 1 star is solely for the embroidery thread IYKYK

This started off as being a good book, since almost anyone who's read Pride and Prejudice is interested in the inner workings of Mr. Darcy. But then his tall, dark, and handsome demeanor is warped into something strange. The end of the book didn't make me eager to read the next two, and I'm still trying to figure out why there needs to be three books anyway, when Pride and Prejudice was only one book long.

I recently read Darcy's Story too and this one is SOOOOO much better! It actually could stand on its own as a story if Jane Austen had never written Pride and Prejudice. I think it is the character development of Darcy that is appreciated here.
