I thought I would not like this book, since me loving modern poetry it’s weird, but I have to give it to the author for her unique way of constructing her verses and what she communicated to us through the book.

How this book ended up on my TBR: I read the first book for a challenge for The StoryGraph. But this is an easy sell for me. I'm a goblin for Greek mythology for the most part, and thus, my rating for this book is relatively high.

Lore Olympus #6 ended with Minthe becoming a plant, thanks to Kore's lack of control over her powers. (Is she a mint plant? I sure hope so, because that would be marvelous.)

There are some random encounters that allow for a little chaos (such as Leto finding her way into Hades's house and trying to sway Kore to accept Apollo) and force the couple to open up to each other. That's one of the things I like the most about this series: they do the exact opposite of hiding from each other. Hades's bringing Kore down to Tartarus also allows us to learn more about how the three kings came to be kings. We also learn a ton more about Hera. In a deviation from traditional Greek mythology, Hera has a much more significant and devastating role in the downfall of Kronos, and it's a role that is resurfacing now in the present in some troubling ways that Zeus is just flat-out ignoring. The friendship between Hades and Hera makes a lot of sense here, especially for Hades. All he wants is to not be alone, and Zeus essentially banished him. He's pushed down his own happiness for so long, and now that he experience such joy with Kore, he is vehement in his protection of her. Their interactions are pretty cute and occasionally awkward.

The therapy scene with Chiron is phenomenal. Kore always seems to think the best of Hades, despite whatever she hears, and it was interesting to hear that she is so much of a people pleaser that she just assumes she will disappoint everyone. Good on Hecate and Eros for encouraging Kore to do this for herself. I can't imagine what hell will be released when Kore finally tells Hades about what happened with Apollo.

Outside of the couple, it's nice to see a few other factors. We finally see a little more of the dynamics between Demeter and Kore. Demeter is a loving and highly overprotective mother, and it's likely that Kore hasn't really found the personal strength to stand up to her mother. To be fair, it's also clear she has never once thought about what would make her happy; it has always been about Demeter's plan for her (which was also pretty unclear). But Kore has found that inner strength, in part from Hades, who never laughs at her, never says he's disappointed in her, and always validates her feelings.

Artemis, meanwhile, is having a hard time. She still does not quite know what's up with Apollo, and the longer she doesn't know, the more unsettled she becomes. She's distraught at the idea that Eros knows something that she doesn't and that he refuses to tell her. (Also, lol to Hestia and Athena. Athena is great. I don't love Hestia for how judgy she was about Kore.) Even Hermes can't tell her what she wants to know. As someone who, per Greek mythology, seems to not give a toss about anyone or ever panic, it's curious to see this shaken up. She can charge into any situation and attack a wrong-doer, but she is remarkably withdrawn around her mother and brother. She probably feels more isolated now than she ever has before, and it's kind of sad to see.

The Eros storyline I genuinely did not see coming until just a couple of pages before it happened. Also props to this series for making me like Ares? It's truly bizarre.

Great cliffhanger ending with the court scene (I would really like Thetis to drop into a ditch somewhere), and I look forward to reading the next one!

NOW the pacing is getting good. This volume has drama, tension, sweet slow moments, nice lovey-dovey stuff, basically anything we'd want in a story like this. Some of my favorite art from this whole series is in this volume, some of my favorite lovely costume designs.

It is very satisfying to see all the things that "maybe didn't feel like a big deal at the time" snowballing into this genuinely big deal. Basically no character here behaved 100% perfectly and it's pretty satisfying to see them think to themselves, "uh oh, now I have to pay for this mistake," and I appreciate that because it makes the plot's small details all matter and it makes all the decisions the characters make feel constantly high-stakes.

Good stuff!!
