First and last book by this author for me. Dull, boring, too much descriptive prose. Very forgettable fiction, for what could have been an amazing novel.

This was a really good book. It covers 4 generations, but in linear order. No jumping back and forth between time periods, with the exception of a chapter towards the end that explain what happened to the original character. The story is very true to life in there were no fairytale ending wrapped up in a shiny bow. The endings made sense and left a feeling of satisfaction with how the book wrapped up.

I really wanted to love this book. It started off really slow and while it did pick up, it wasn't enough for me to be really excited about it.

The character development was good but that was about all that was good for me. The plot felt unnatural but i did push myself to finish it. Maybe it was just me but this one missed the mark for me

DID NOT FINISH: 28%

This one just didn't have enough of a hook to make me want to slog through the slow build. The premise of the story is great. Execution, not so much. Also some eye roll on details in the beginning stemming from a man's perspective of pregnancy and birth. I tried to push on because of the positive reviews (made it 28%), but it's just not worth it to me.

I think this is the first time I’ve read a book in this style - a story that takes place over several generations, demonstrating how the traumas of one lifetime carry forth to the next. I appreciated how it came full circle in the end. If you enjoy historical fiction, you’ll probably love this. And if it’s not your preferred genre, it’s still a great read. Sometimes a little dry, and often quite challenging to think about, but I’m glad I pushed through.

I enjoyed this story, set over a few generations. It was a slower read for me. I’d really give it 3.5 stars.
