This book would not be for you if you are triggered. This book is a huge trigger. It took me months to finish because I knew what was happening about 1/3 of the way through. That did not make it a bad book as this is not a thriller.
Without spoilers, this book, while not exactly an accurate representation, is a deeply dark psychological story about two people who love each other. One loves and the other is the beloved and it’s a story about what that looks like when life is difficult.
This fits in the romance genre.

I did what I was supposed to and went in blind, read the trigger warnings, had my hopes up that this book would be seriously intense. Despite everything that happens, somehow it is a huge letdown. The characters are just odd (twist made sense, wasn't much of a big surprise). Honestly, I would rather a trigger warning for the insanely unhealthy obsession the main characters have for each other. I get that this is fiction, but based on other reviews who are in love with Yeo, I feel it needs to be said this is NOT a normal or healthy relationship. Deep, deep codependency on both parts. I would have rather her learned to live on her own and not have her entire existence made valid by some man. So much hype and I was disappointed.
Quickly becoming one of my favourite authors. This book was heartbreakingly fantastic.

I took everyone’s advice and went into this one blind- I was excited to do so, because I love thrillers and psychological books, and all I’d seen is people talking about how they were so shocked by the twist. By the 2nd chapter, I’d guessed the twist. SUPER disappointing after seeing so much positive buzz!
