4 ROARING CROWNS
Whispers and the Roars is unlike any romance I have ever read before, and it it took me time to figure out what was going on and how all the pieces of this intricate story were being placed together, but when I turned the last page, I realized the K. Webster had constructed an incredibly dark, yet powerful story that details the power of love.
This story follows several different characters, but the two main ones in the story are Kady and Yeo. The story begins with Yeo returning after graduating in order to reclaim Kady, and what begins when he returns is a reclaiming of who she is. Through this process, Yeo is shown to be unbelievable supportive, understanding, compassionate, and a true example of pure love. He accepts Kady, every tiny facet of her, without question. He seeks only to help her in any way that he can, only wanting to help her get better. His love is completely and totally selfless. Unlike Yeo, Kady is a much more complex character. Without revealing too much, because readers really should go in knowing very little about the story, Kady has been damaged. This damage has caused her to hide from the world, and she seems to only come out for Yeo. Although Kady is fragile, K. Webster still gives her character incredible strength, and her development as a character is simply fascinating.
The plot of this story will leave readers puzzled for a good portion of the book. I was often left pondering certain character decisions and motivations, but when the moment of revelation happens it all clicks into place, revealing the K. Webster might be a psychological romance genius, as I never saw the story going there until the author chose to reveal it. Once this big reveal happened, I couldn't put this book down. I was racing to see how it would all unfold for Yeo and Kady.
This has been my first book by K. Webster, and what an absolute ride it is. Intense, thrilling, heartbreaking, and hopeful, Whispers and the Roars is such a unique and thrilling romance that lovers of dark romances should absolutely check out.

Whispers and the Roars by K. Webster took me on such a wild journey that it’s tricky to sum up in words. I went in knowing almost nothing—just that it came highly recommended based on my recent reads—and I think that was the right move.
Initially, I wasn’t sure how I felt about it, but as the story progressed and the twist became clear, I felt a rush of anxiety, empathy, and genuine concern for the characters.
The pacing started off a bit slow, then ramped up significantly near the end. While I would have preferred a more even tempo throughout, it’s definitely a unique addition to my bookshelf.

****BETA READ****
“Kadence Marshall has been my entire world since I was ten years old. And now, every single choice. Every decision. Every thought that enters my mind involves…her. It’s always been that way and it always will be that way. I love her. Plain and simple. You can’t snuff out the blazing flames of love. Soul mates don’t simply drift apart. Twelve years does nothing to change the way I feel about her.”
“This girl was meant to soar…”
I’m starting to believe that it’s K. Webster’s mission to keep me on my toes. I honestly never know what to expect when I’m picking up one of her books and I couldn’t be more happier about that.
Whispers and Roars is refreshing, absolutely unique and unlike anything we’ve seen from K. Webster before. This book is going to suck you and play with your mind. It will have you asking questions and wondering exactly what is going on. And the deeper you get into the story, the more questions you have. And just when you think you’ve got it all figured out, the rug will pulled out from under you and your mind will be totally blown. I know mine was.
Whispers and Roars will take you on one incredible, mind scrambling ride. This story is told from multiple points of view and will captivate you from beginning to end. This story is about true love and acceptance. It is filled with mystery and suspense. There is romance and lots of sexy, steamy moments. But, don’t let that fool you, Whispers and Roars is not an easy story. It definitely has dark moments and it will pull at your heart.
Whispers and Roars has completely blown me away and has once again showed me why K. Webster is one of my go-to authors. I can not wait to see what this author has up her sleeves next.

DNF 30% - MCs have no connection, you're told they do, but you don't feel it. Boohoo drama and cheesy writing.

I had my suspicions early on, but I will say K definitely did her research.
“I love his whispers.”
Before now, I didn’t know it was possible to feel everything on the scale of human emotion, but here I am doing just that, courtesy of this book. Mind blown, unable to form coherent thoughts, & feeling them fucking ALL. Awestruck. Sweating. Sobbing. Panicking. Swooning. Angry. Speechless. Contemplative.
The first thing you need to know about Whispers and the Roars - it’s one of those books where even the smallest, tinniest detail holds the potential to spoil the whole thing. You need to go in blind, as advised by most reviews echoing the initial advice of the author.
Holy shit balls, was she right and I am so happy I listened & went in without a freaking clue. It did not disappoint, I was *enthralled*, & it was so worth it.
❗️TRUST you do NOT want this book spoiled.
❗️TRUST you CAN’T understand until you read it
… once you get there, ‘the moment of truth’ it’s like a sucker punch to the gut. Unexpected. Painful. Shocking. Just… everything. K Webster you’re a genius. (IYKYK)
Each word was like a small piece of a traumatic, emotional, painful jigsaw puzzle that in the end created a picture that was passionate, unbreakable, & dark but beautiful.
VAGUE Summary
The romance between Kady & Yeo was nothing short of beautiful.
Since meeting as young kids, they’d been in each others lives. In love. Like, true in l-o-v-e, soulmate shit.
Kady’s very much a girl from “the wrong side of the tracks”, where as Yeo, the youngest of a well off family, lived a very different life with different expectations.
Feeling she’d hold him back, Kady urged him to go on with his education & leave her behind. Yeo did as she told him, giving her the space she needed, but never letting her go.
His whole life while he was away had been about her.
How he could help Kady.
How he could bring Kady into his family - who were more than open about their (negative) opinions about her.
In fact, the whole town seemed to look down on or be fearful of her & it didn’t make much sense at ALL. Kady is compassionate, quiet, a bit recluse.
Either way, Yeo doesn’t give AF about anyone else’s opinions, social status, etc. He is devoted AF.
As he moves his life back to his hometown, back to Katie, he works to simultaneously open his own practice, win back Kady, & make sure she has a place in his family. The guy is swoon worthy, really.
And the plot twist. Oh man. And the ending….
Let’s just say I sobbed like a baby & felt so crazy doing so because it was the right ending. BUT STILL. #iykyk
I would die for Yeo & Kady.

The romance between Kady & Yeo was nothing short of beautiful.
“How’d I get so lucky to have you?”
He smirks. “I pretty much forced my way into your life when we were kids, remember? You were too young to realize you’d befriended a stalker.”

To anyone looking to read this novel, bare in mind before you even start, it isn't going to make sense at first. It's not going to be very clear, there's not going to be a straight line from start to happily ever after, and you may catch on faster than I did but up to about half way this book almost makes you want to put it down. Stick it out.
I have so many thoughts still crashing into each other, and to be able to give a review without any spoilers is damn near impossible.
All I can say is, such a thought provoking, intense, harrowing (at times), but beautiful read.
The only reason this is a 4 star read is because I don’t know if I would be able to re-read it, but I am so glad I’ve read it at least once. Thank you, K Webster. The writing was delicate & tender as well as being raw & honest.
Warning:Whispers and the Roars is a dark romance. Strong sexual themes and violence, which could trigger emotional distress, are found in this story. The abuse written in this story is graphic and not glossed over, which could be upsetting to some. This story is NOT for everyone. Proceed with caution.
***THIS STANDALONE IS BEST ENJOYED WHEN YOU DON'T READ ANY REVIEWS OR SPOILERS BEFORE READING. GOING IN BLIND IS BEST. TRUST ME.***
