The swoony parts were great, but...I can't believe I'm going to say this...sometimes it felt like just sex scenes tacked together. A little too much in fact. Wow...I said it.

"You manipulate me"

I am unsure at what angle Miss Malpas was writing at. I thought this to be a bit of a horror story. Was that her intent or is this a love story? Please, allow me to explain.

It has been nearly a week (three or so weeks since their relationship began) since Ava has seen or heard from Jesse. Last she saw him, he was raving drunk and hurling nasty obscenities. After being persuaded by Sam, Ava gets into Jesse's Lusso penthouse to find Jesse comatose from binge drinking. Worried, she decides to stay and look after him to make sure he is OK. Jesse finally comes to and the vicious cycle continues.

There are so many things that I found appalling in this relationship. A woman so easily manipulated by sex tops them all. I had to keep reminding myself that this is just a story. No relationship, especially a month old, should endure what these characters have. I truly loved Jesse in This Man. He was a little crazy, a lot domineering but sweet-ish. This book introduced a whole new crazy Jesse. Frankly, I thought him to be emotionally abusive.

There is only so much sex that you can toss in a book before the story becomes lost. The story that was presented was painful, sad and disturbing. This includes the sex. Ava was "sense fucked" into submission constantly for things that she did not want to agree to. I don't want to give too much away but there are painful admissions and revelations by Jesse that are completely brushed off by Ava. To me, she was a stupid woman under the influence of a manipulative man. The story line just went all over the place and seemed like filler around the sex. Ms. Malpas is a beginner and I am confident she will find her way, I just hope she finds it before the next installment.

I gave the book 2 stars only because I am interested to see where Ava and Jesse find themselves and if they get their "happily ever after". I truly loved these characters when reading This Man, I hope that these two have brighter days ahead.

This book is the original After, except it’s with older characters, and a heroine who has absolutely no back bone.

This is one of the most frustrating books I’ve ever read. The more I read about Ava the less I like her. Her head is completely screwed loose. She allows this man to abuse her both mentally and at times sexually. She has absolutely no back bone about series topics, but will stand up and try to have a back bone about the most absolute stupid shit.

Jesse is beyond controlling, he is straight up abusive.

I don’t even want to get started on Kate, Ava’s best friend. What kinda shitty best friend watches as some guy is controlling and literally won’t let her make her own choices. Kate not only doesn’t say anything about this insane behavior, but she helps him by opening doors and allowing him to throw her over his shoulder when she said she didn’t want to go with him. Who does that???

I don’t even want to get started on the lack of response to cheating, to all of what Sarah did in this book, to the stealing of birth control pills, to the many women who openly would do shit to Jesse in front of Ava.

Worst heroine I’ve ever read about.

I’m going to sound crazy saying this, but it had too much sex in it. He would force her into sex to agree with him and it was over the freaking top.

Will I read the train wreck of the next book? Yes, but I’m frustrated with it already.

A little 50 shade-ish.
It was so complicated and so deep that I felt trampled with Ava.
I really enjoyed it.

I am really enjoying this series, but Jesse’s vagueness and Ava’s acceptance of that is really bothering me now. There is so much she doesn’t know about Jesse and with how quickly their relationship is progressing, it frustrates me. Literally wanted to shout at the characters! All that being said, I like this series and would recommend to anyone who is into “you’re mine” dudes.

The last few chapters really threw me through an emotional roller coaster and I was not prepared for it. This series is very good and if you read the fifty shades of grey series and enjoyed it then you should consider this series. Also fair warning though this is a little bit more controlling and aggressive but it's the same concept.

Omg? Why am Tearing up at how beautifully she closed out this book? This was 10x's worth fighting through the first book. It gets better people believe me when I say it. This series is worth it and I am running off to book three now!!!

Jesse is insane. Ava is even worse for staying with him. Especially after he was getting whipped by the mega bitch. I’m so over this couple. He’s psycho and she’s blind.
