Awww that was so good! Love a magical realism. The only things that kept me from a 5 star are:

- Soooo much trigger-warning worthy content. I know that it was part of these characters’ stories and what made them them, but it’s still hard to read

- The “missed communication” between Henry and Martha. For the love of god, just talk with each other. It’s one trope that really annoys me. Instead of the “omg we both love each other but are to nervous/afraid to say so” isn’t my favorite

This is such a charming story, beautifully written. Her descriptions flow, and illustrate the world of the story, capturing you from chapter one.

The story itself focuses on three people's perspectives, entwined by common interests, a little magic, and love. I felt invested in each person and had to read 'just one more chapter' many times.

Many important and emotional topics within, and a lovely tribute to the importance and magic of books and how they can change our lives.

I would have liked a bit more magic and spookiness throughout.

I should have dnf'd when the fmc didn't know how a library worked.

I really wanted to like this book as it had been recommended to me by a few people. I could not get into it. I found it confusing and hard to follow. The timeline didn't make sense to me. I also just didn't like the characters and felt like I couldn't connect with any of them. DNF at 40% and the 40% I did read took me a month to slog through.

I kept reading and reading this book waiting for it to get better. The amount of fights I’d have with myself to just stop reading it. I haven’t felt this way about a book in a very long time. What sucks is how amazing it could have been. The concept is just so magical. The writing was too simple and just straight up boring. The plot was barely there. I genuinely hated this book and feel like my time was wasted reading it.
