I hated the first half and I don’t love this trope but the second half was so good yay I love ares
Intense heartbreak to overwhelming love, this heart-wrenching story illustrates how real love is hard fought and hard won. The Wrong Bride portrays how true love can indeed conquer all but not without tests and trials. My most favorite part of this novel is the crafting of its protagonist, Raven. Something about how she is portrayed truly touched me so much so that I felt every heart break she experienced. That I could feel what Raven felt, despite never having experienced what she's going through as a character, is a testament to how wonderfully crafted this novel is.

There is so much trash to sift through here. The premise sounded completely ridiculous, but who doesn’t love a weird plot from time to time?
What killed this for me was the pretentious dialogue from all of the characters. If the plot itself is going to be barely believable, you have to sell everything else really well. The dialogue is so stiff and stilted and not at all what people in their 20s and 30s, in today’s world, sound like when they speak. The dialogue was more suited for a historical romance, not something set in the present day.

This book had me conflicted. Catharina Maura’s writing style is undeniably compelling, but The Wrong Bride felt like a never-ending cycle of the same emotional turmoil. At first, the tension and chemistry between Ares and Raven had me intrigued, but after a while, the constant insecurity, broken promises, and repetitive arguments started to wear me down.
I don’t mind a bit of angst, but this was a lot. The book is simply too long—about half of it could have been cut without losing any of the plot. And speaking of the plot… it had some pretty weak moments. The emotional push-and-pull was engaging at first but became frustrating as it dragged on. By the end, I wasn’t savoring the romance—I just wanted to be done.
That being said, I can see why this series has a dedicated fan base. If you love angsty, slow-burn romances where emotions run high, this might be right up your alley. But for me? It was a bit too much.

Ares was super red flag.
