oh. my. god. i actually want to give myself an award for getting through this PAINFULLY horrible book. what the fuck? i wish i could give it zero stars. the female lead was SO irritating and selfish. and the way she kept victimizing herself? bitch youre the one in love with your sister’s boyfriend. if anything, hannah was the biggest victim here. yea her and that guy werent meant to be but oh my lord she was BETTER THAN THAT BOYFRIEND STEALING BITCH I HATE HER WITH ALL MY LIFE I HATE HER
this book made me want to open Sylvia’s Bared to You and reread it because even THAT was better than this shit

This is a foray into a genre books that I do not read. Inspired by a friend in the DIscomfort Zone Book Club, I asked another trusted reader to make recommendations for this genre. This was one that was readily available, and so began reading...
Initially, I was more impressed with the story-telling than expected, and there was discussion of issues that was unexpected - consent, emotional intelligence, etc. Then as the story progressed, the story devolved into argument / spicy make-up. As I have little experience with this genre, it is unclear if the "same song, bazillionth verse" nature of how the spicy scenes are written is common or is it is just a characteristic of this author. But honestly, a little creativity is requested! Also, I have definite opionions on the use of specific euphemisms for human genitalia - 100% turn-off.
The one thing that I think should have been addressed a bit more clearly is that toxic people should be cut out of your life - full stop. Unfortunately, this did not occur in this story until the very end, and more as the actions of the MMC to "protect" the FMC, rather than as an act of the FMC's agency.
Oh, and that's one last thing, the MMC's jealousy and possessiveness undoes ALL the emotional intelligent monalogues early in the book.
Lastly, the comtemporary fiction is not my favorite generally, so the plan is to try out some Regency-era novels as well.
Spicy: I have no idea, as I do not have enough experience in this genre. That said, I have seen other reviews rate it as 3/5 spicy, which seems reasonable to me.
Rating: 2.25/5 stars ("it was ok") - the extra 0.25 is for the initial story telling and EQ monologues.

Eh. It was okay. I liked it. But not til about 40%.
The FMC was quite annoying in my honest opinion.

So I can see why people might not like this book but for me? Loved it!
I mean if I was in Ravens shoes I probably would of been so insecure all the way through this marriage and never believe a word Ares says, but I mean that is just me.
But as Ravens character grows stronger and stronger and she stops letting herself be manipulated by her family she blossomed. Now there is defo stuff Ares could of done to make her feel more secure but in reality it is a hard position to be in for both of them.
But damn that sister is annoying, every time there was a scene with her I had to bite the bullet and keep reading cause she pissed me off throughout.
But the ending was exactly what I wanted so I am more than happy!

This book started out strong, but then it kind of took a turn. It’s extremely repetitive. I loved the characters and the idea of the story, but I think I needed more from it.
Some characters deserve a good throat punch
Ooo i was getting heated for Raven - everyone's punching bag, including life. Ended up being a really cute read, Ares is a sweetheart even if he says some out of pocket stuff.
