I wanted to really like it because I love zombies, but I had trouble sympathizing with the main characters, which is a huge issue. Plus, the writing style is not amazing, just okay. Only for true zombie lovers; others would just be disgusted.

I saw this on someone's wish list and the blurb had me intrigued. I found it at a bookstore and figured the cover already had me sold. Zombies? Yeah, ok. Im in. I felt like this story could rival Warm Bodies as a movie. (Havent read WB yet).

I'm not sure the trigger level of others reviewing this book but it was tame.. Like really tame. It had gore and guts and all those good things but it was funny and completely PG 13 with the scenes. I liked the book so much I read it within 24 hours.

This book was cute... if you can use the word "cute" to describe a zombie story. It made me laugh, but I also became invested in many of the characters - Andy, Rita and Jerry in particular. I cared what was happening to them and I think that is pretty good for a darkly comical zombie novel. If you like zombies (and are not a purist) and you have an only mildly warped sense of humor, you'll like this book as much as I did.

Well! This was something! A coming of age story of a 39 year old Zombie!

This was my first Zombie book, so I'm not sure how the others are, but this took the Zombie's side, and showed us their point of view.

In Breathers, our main character, Andy, has just recently reanimated (Come back to life after dying as a Zombie)and he tells the story of how Zombies are treated even worse than cockroaches, I felt so bad for him, I actually felt for the Zombies, and got annoyed at the Breathers (Humans).

We follow Andy on his self realization journey from sad Zombie lying in his parents basement getting by day to day, to a Zombie who can stand on his own and who is fighting for his civil rights.

This story was odd as it sent a very clear message using an extremely weird story line! As Andy tries harder and harder to fit in with the Humans and go back to his old life, he finally realizes that what is past is past, and that it is time to move on and embrace his zombie-ism. The cannibalism in the story did not even bother me, as this is the Zombie's story, in Breathers, the humans are the bad guys!

So! The point is, don't try to be something you're not. If you're a flesh eating Zombie, then so be it! Be a flesh eating Zombie and be proud! There's no point in attempting to fit in with others who are clearly unlike you and who shun you, screw them, there's no right or wrong, do what makes you happy and what feels right for you.

I picked this book up when Borders was closing because I liked the cover and everything was 75% off. Looking back, I would've bough it regular price. Hell. I'd probably buy it twice. It's that good.
This was the first book I'd read by S.G. Browne, but it certainly wasn't the last. It turned me in to a huge fan. Well, an active reader and Twitter follower.
It's funny, sad, satirical, and smart. It has romance, gore, and politics. And gore. And more humour. Best of all, it has a really great plot.

WARNING: Do not try to read in large sittings if unable to sustain continuous laughter without breathing. An iconic mix of black, dry, and whimsical humors, the laughter allows for unexpected exploration of the extent to which morality can still apply to existential humanism. While the work can't avoid the occasional eye-rolling cliché, cultural relativists would do well to anticipate a black challenge.
